I’m on the Bench . But Belinda rides Biasini!

This past week I have been relegated to the “bench” by a muscle spasm in my back. Not being able to ride is not my idea of a good time! But here is what is good. I got to watch Belinda ride Biasini This is a real treat I can assure you. Belinda rode him twice in the week and she was very happy with how he worked so hard for her. She starts him with a stretching trot.

On the Tuesday she did some trot work that included trot half pass and shoulder in. Here is a short video clip.

Sometimes Belinda would intersperse the collected work with medium trot.

On Thursday she worked on the canter. The photo below shows how she is getting him to “sit” behind and raise up his shoulders and neck. This is the ideal I try to work for and it was great to see it happening.

Belinda also did some travers ( haunches in on the long side).

Then she rode Biasini, in trot, across the arena, on the diagonal, in travers for a half pass.

She told me she wanted to get Biasini to think “passage” and this gave him more lift and air time in his trot. He remembered that from their time together on Tuesday.

To finish she rode him in a stretching trot.

I was so proud of my horse! I thought he looked amazing and what a treat it is to see a two time Olympian ride my horse and let me see how special and talented he is. Belinda told me she felt he worked hard for her and he never said “no.” That is the best thing you can ask for in a horse .

And where was I? Here is a photo of my “bench”.

Not exactly a “bench” but it is the sport reference to being on the Bench or the sidelines that I am referring to. Nonetheless I am going to submit this post to XingfuMaMa’s Pull Up A Seat photo challenge. Here is her badge for the challenge. Do click the link to see some of her “seat” blog posts.

Hope your back is feeling better. Trish is the same kind of rider. She can ride any horse and look they’ve been together forever.

My back is not happy about the trot or canter so Belinda will be riding Biasini 3 days this week. I can take him for walking hacks no problem. But I really miss the training work!

How very interesting to see Biasini working with another rider – and quite a rider indeed. I can see why you would be so proud of him Anne. He is quite beautiful and seemed proud to perform for both of you!

Belinda is an amazingly accomplished and experienced rider and she is also so encouraging to the horses and rewards them for working hard. Biasini used to belong to Belinda. She bought him as a 4 year old and I bought him from her when he was 9. So she knows him well and she loves to ride him.

Wow, had no idea Anne. That explains partly why he’s such a wonderful horse. It must have been hard for her to part with him.

She had two horses at the time who were at the same level. I asked her to help me find a horse as I had just put a horse down. My daughter had previously trained with Belinda. So I knew her quite well.

It’s always enlightening and rewarding to see that one’s horse really can do the things that we ask of them, even if we as riders aren’t quite yet perfect enough to pull it off as beautifully as the pro. 💕

I hope your back heals up soon, does it usually take long.

This is the first time I have had a muscle spasm in my lower back. The chiropractor says it is local with no nerves involved so it should not take too long. It is feeling better than it did a week ago.
