Letting Go! Lynsey Rowan rides Biasini.

“Lots of riders try to hide it. If they are good riders they can almost do it.” Belinda said this to Lynsey when she was having a lesson on Biasini. What were they hiding? The horse was not truly in self carriage. What does “Self Carriage” mean? It means the rider is not holding the horse in a frame. If the rider gives with their hand and basically lets go the horse that is in self carriage will not suddenly pull their head down or change anything about how they are going. This is what Belinda had Lynsey work on in their lesson on Wednesday. They worked on this in the canter starting with canter leg yield. In this video you can hear Belinda asking “Could you let go?” This is the test to see if Biasini is in self carriage.

The next thing they worked on were flying changes. Not a series,as tempi changes , but preparing Biasini and then letting him go and asking for the change with him in self carriage.

Once again I learned a lot just watching this lesson. Lynsey is a fine rider and she is able to bring out the best in Biasini. He tries hard to do his best and I was very proud of him .

In this photo Lynsey has asked Biasini to lengthen his stride and cover more ground with each stride.
