“Amazing!” Belinda Trussell and Biasini.

On Thursday Biasini was ridden by Belinda and I was there to watch .Belinda started him with several minutes of stretching trot.

Then she picked him up and did more warm up in canter

Belinda then started the work of the session. She moved Biasini forward into bigger strides and back to collected canter. Then she did some work on very collected canter with quarter turns in pirouette canter.

You can see in the photo above that her reins are not the least bit tight. They almost have a loop. Belinda was following on from the work Lynsey had done with Biasini in their lesson with Belinda the day before. Belinda is letting go when she asks for this quarter pirouette but she expects Biasini to remain in self carriage. And he does!
Belinda makes it look easy. I admire how she can make Biasini look his best and it is next to impossible to see how she is working to make that happen.

Belinda was very happy with Biasini. “He feels amazing,” she told me. She then told me that she has a younger horse who still leans on her hands. She said she could remember when Biasini was the same age and he used to lean a lot as well. She said that she knows now that in order to carry themselves they must have developed the strength to do that. She told me that now Biasini is feather light in her hands. Now he has the strength to be able to carry himself.

I told Belinda that I was so grateful to have her and Lynsey riding him while I was off. This means he will maintain his muscle strength.

I know this may seem a daft question, Anne, but does Biasini ever get spooked by his image in the mirrors 🤔

No he doesn’t. But he is used to that. In dressage we work a lot with mirrors. When Belinda extended the mirrors he did stop and look a bit but not an actual apook

That’s amazing; goes to show how intelligent horses are & recognise that it’s them in the mirror 😃 Mind you, he likes seeing photos of himself, so probably likes the mirrors 😂

Yes they are.Belinda has ridden for Canada in two Olympics and she got Biasini as a 4 year old and trained him until I bought him when he was nine. He is 17 now. Thanks for your lovely comment Neal.

What a blessing. I remember that having a consistent routine also helped.

Thank you. Consistency is so important. I was just thinking about writing a blog post about that . So thank you for confirming that.

Yes she does. But I know she is giving tiny aids every second to let Biasini know what she wants . I’m glad you enjoyed seeing them together. Thanks for commenting.
