“It gets easy later.” These are the words of Bob Westman who coaches Paralympian Marissa Papaconstantinou. Marissa won the bronze medal in the T-64 100 meter Dash! She had to come back from two bad hamstring injuries and her coach always said :”It’s hard now but it gets easy later.”
I found this an interesting quote and I wondered …does dressage ever get easy? Then last week my coach Belinda Trussell rode Biasini to give him a tune up . Here is a video of her doing a canter half pass zig zag. Another horse rides in front of my videoing but you can still see all the important parts of the zig zag: the bend in the half pass , the uphill flying changes and the new bend. Belinda makes it all look easy. I know she is giving Biasini little aids every stride but to me they are almost invisible. I think that it is possible that for Belinda riding this zig zag is “easy”.
This gives me encouragement. There may come a day when, for me, it may not be easy but perhaps easier!
Good quote. Thanks

I do like this way of saying it does get easier, it affirms the challenge of right now is hard, but gives motivation to keep going. Believe me my fly by the seat of me pants riding does love your wonderful blogs. Biasini is such a beautiful horse.

Thank you for this supportive comment. Biasini is a beauty and also a very talented fellow. He can be a challenging ride but only because he gets very “hot” and wants to do better and sometimes gets very strong! He always is willing to work and who can ask for more than that?

I love this post. I’m thinking that same thing that the more you do things (repetitively work on things) the easier they become. At my work for instance, I’ve been doing the same job for almost 40 years, so I can do it in my sleep I think! I still see new issues arise, but have learned how to deal with them. So here’s to “it gets easy later” !! Belinda is a BEAUTIFUL rider! ❤️🐴❤️

I agree that with repetition and experience things do get easier. For me dressage is in fact easier than it was several years ago. There are many things that now are happening without me having to think about them. And yes, Belinda is a beautiful rider. She always talks to the horses when riding and is quick to give the a pat or an encouraging few words.

If I ever even get close to a zig zag it will be a miracle. Easy or hard won’t even be a consideration. The impossible doesn’t seem to care about breaking things down into degrees of possibility. 😁
