Hello 2021! My word for 2021 is Perseverance. Last year my word for the year was Resilience. Click on the word and you can see my post about how appropriate that word turned out to be.
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”
― Confucius
Carrying away the small stones. That is what I am doing in my training with Biasini. My coach Belinda Trussell points out those small stones to me and give me clues as to how to move them. This is an ongoing process. I will write posts about our progress and when possible have video to give you a visual of our efforts. I also need to apply this principle to my life in general. Just one stone at a time. I do not need to move the whole mountain at once!
“Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.”
― Winston S. Churchill
Continuous effort. I have days with my riding when I think : “Good grief…I’m at the max. I am getting too old for this kind of physical effort. ” However… I know that is not true. I can still do it. I will not be doing it, at the level I am now, in ten years time so I must do it now. I am doing the online Eldergym classes 6 days a week and I have moved up to a more demanding level in the Eldergym courses. So my fitness is sufficient for the task at hand.
I am taking three lessons a week with Belinda Trussell and she does not teach me as if I was an old person. She teaches me with the expectation that I can, and will, succeed at what she is asking me to do.
So …..Perseverance! With the current Covid situation I think we may all need to persevere.

Good word. I think will be needing a lot of it and patience this year. Hope your year is off to a good start. Stay well, stay safe. 🙂

I am doing my best to stay safe. I groom and tack up Biasini in his stall and I wear a mask while riding in the indoor arena. I got several Under Armour masks as they are designed for wearing during workouts and they work well. You stay safe and well too!

As a fellow Queenager still, after many, many years, trying to move up the levels, YOU are my inspiration! I am printing this post and placing it in my 2021 riding journal, and I shall try to read it every day. Please don’t stop moving that mountain in your riding or writing! I love both! Wishing you the very best in this coming new year – and always.

Anne, you’re a good exemplar for this word! (And exemplar is a good Latin-based word to match up with persevere.) “Persevere” has been my sister’s slogan, too, since she was in primary school, and found to have an auditory problem, which she deals with every day, but refuses to let it get in her way. Best wishes for 2021, the Stick-to-it-tive-ness Year. 👍

Perseverance is a great word choice and fits perfectly to your circumstance. True, we do not need to move a mountain at once. It’s the little steps that count the most. You effort and hard work is admirable. Baanving the training, online classes and other daily life activities can take a toll but spreading it and having the will goes a long way. All the best.
