Belinda Trussell: Attention to Detail.

Today I watched Belinda ride Biasini.I have a new walker and he had to come over and give it a good look when I first came into the arena. I took my seat and watched while Belinda warmed him up. I know I have taken photos of the stretching trot but here is a short video.

Then she went on to warm up canter and then Belinda picked him up into some forward and back in the canter. She then rode Biasini in what I considered to be excellent half passes. Here is a video of one to the right.

Belinda said he was a bit spooky about something as they came toward the open door. But, to be honest, I didn’t see anything much other than a very well executed half pass.

When she had finished riding I told Belinda how much I enjoyed watching her ride my horse. She told me she loves to ride him. “I don’t have to train him to do anything. He is so responsive I can focus on the things that Debbie MacDonald was teaching me when we were in Florida. All the intricate things. How is he going? How was that flying change? Is he sucking back at all? What do I need to do?” She also told me the half passes felt very good. I told her they looked very good indeed.

The thing I learned today is that, even for a rider of Belinda’s considerable experience and skill, the most important thing is always paying attention to detail. Every second , every instant, it is about the details and the intricacies of how the horse is going and how the horse is responding. That is what makes all the difference.

I miss seeing him so getting to the barn to watch Belinda also gives me a chance for a visit with Biasini 🙂

We must both have the idea of details on the brain. I recently finished a draft essay about details that I expect to post soon on my blog. Funny how when I think about something, I often see that others are contemplating a similar subject. Glad Belinda is enjoying Biasini so much. It is fun to see.

Thanks for commenting! I recently was thinking about consistency and anotherr blogger posted about it. Nothing to do with horses but I was interested to see that she was thinking about it too.
