Cheeky Chippie Triptych:LAPC #201

This week Ann-Christine has given us the challenge of Three of a Kind. for Lens Artists Photo Challenge #201.She draws our attention to the correct term, for three separate photos, that are connected in the subject matter, is Triptych. Here is my response.

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.

Charles Darwin

I chose this quote because I think it applies so well to chipmunks. They fill up their cheeks with nuts and seeds and the take them to their underground lairs. Squirrels eat theirs and then dig holes to bury some. I have no idea if they remember, in the dead of winter, where those nuts and seeds are buried. But the Chippies know. They have them in their burrows. And that is where they spend their winters; underground and safe from the harsh Canadian winters. Clever little fellows! When I see the chippies out and about I know spring is here.

Thank you Ann-Christine for this interesting challenge.

I’ve heard that squirrels bury so many nuts/acorns that they forget where a lot of them are—then other squirrels discover them and poach them for their own use. All I know is that when spring comes there are an awful lot of fat squirrels roaming the yard.

I see some pretty fat squirrels here too but since they are the females Iam suspecting they are expecting babies!

The barred owls here seem to either prefer chipmunks or go after them because they make it so easy.

Oh..well they always seem to dart about so fast. Much faster than thr squirrels. But the owls must be fat too.

The chipmunks freeze and make a lot of noise when they see an owl though. It is their downfall.

We have sunflowers sprouting in all my wife’s flower pots where the ground squirrels buried those stolen from the bird feeders.

Aww! They’re so cute! We have quite a few that live around our area; they like to nestle in the geranium pots where the soil is nice and cool (we get an early summer where we live lol.)

Loved this one Anne! Cheeky indeed, in (of course) more ways than one! We rarely see them here but they were everywhere when we lived up north. I’d rather forgotten about them until I saw your post which gave me some fond memories of those days left behind.
