PART TWO: Where oh where is the Canadian Dressage Team??

The Paris Olympics are almost upon us and we still do not know who will be on the Canadian Dressage team. There appears to be a controversy swirling . I had to read an article by Ken Braddick of Dressage News. com to find out what was going on Here is a link to his article.https://dressage-news.com/2024/06/29/canadas-olympic-dressage-team-selection-embroiled-in-controversy/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3wyslsly6LaoHwWjUtJ3jOBGnKOQhU4CazgribhKh00OVAsUGCXijjCgY_aem_C6ilQUJEgkp4t7FSlkM6Qg It seems that a member of the group that chooses the team has a close family relationship with one of the declared riders.

How can Equestrian Canada, our ngo for all equestrian sports, in Canada . have chosen a person was close to one of the declared riders? I cannot answer that one. I also have learned that one rider has appealed the decision of the selectors and won her appeal. At this point the list of selectors was changed.

When will we find out who is going to Paris? I have no idea. But I do hope it will be soon. If you follow this blog you will know I have interviewed some of the declared riders. Here are some links to those interviewed. The one on Naima Laliberte is not done about her aiming for Paris 2024.I did this interview in 2022.

The horse pictured in Camille’s first linkn is Sound of Silence the second link for Camille is Finnlanderin. .If you read the article by Ken Braddick you will see that Camille and Finlanderin were named to a team for Paris but who knows if they will be on the final and official team??

Oh dear. Have other scandals plagued the competition in the past? What organization is immune from controversy? ? Crazy times we’re living in.

Indeed. This is hard to understand. I mean, why would Equestrian Canada put someone on their selection committee who was the wife of one of the declared riders? It’s such an obvious conflict of interest. I can’t understand it!!

IU can’t understand it either Patti

A bit curious about why someone on the selection panel didn’t say they were connected to one of the declared riders. What about the others on the selection panel not raising the issue? Appealing a selection decision is generally a longshot, but is understandable in this case. To say it’s a confusing mess would be an understatement.

Equestrian Canada sounds like they need a kick in the pants. Paris is almost here. Getting horses from here to there. If you don’t have a corporate or deep-pocketed sponsor and you’ve been selected, you’re not getting there.

WordPress is not working well for me either. Issues with formatting, scheduled posts not publishing, notifications not getting out on time. The best they can do, “clear your cache” or “change browsers.” They know I’m very unhappy with them.

My daughter has been staying with us and she sorted it all out for me. So tonight I will put up a blog post. I do not know what to do about the scheduled posts that go into the reader but are posted on a completely different site!!

I think Ariana was brave to appeal this decision and if I had been on the selection panel I would have said something for sure. Sad to say but Equestrian Canada is not the best organization in terms of representing riders and their horses.

Inside the federations, there is a lot politicking going on. The USEF has its share. Since Beezie Madden’s retirement, there really has been a void in the US ranks. There’s Elizabeth, but she doesn’t have enough international experience and the USEF is in no hurry to give her any, including as an alternate. Tara and me are 30, similarly there seems to be no rush for us to be on a national team. USEF seems content to let us ride 3*, 4* and 5* shows to our hearts content. We’re earning decent prize money, which is not a priority with us. We have a benefactress sponsoring us, but is not known in horse circles. We’re not going to worry about it. There a lot of very good riders ahead of us, so if it’s a matter of everyone having a chance, it’s almost like the participation trophy approach to riding.

Hopefully, something good can come out of this business.
