Hallelujah RAIN!

It has rained all day today.I am delighted to see this rain . The squirrels water dish was pelted with the heavy rain.

The hydrangea was covered and bowed down with water.

The alchemilla mollis (lady’s mantle) took a beating but I wasn’t worried it will come back .

The pool gained enough water to fill up over the filter so my husband had to run water out of the pool. The photo below is not a stream it is our driveway.

I am very happy about this rain. And here is the reason: Last week we were in an area of Extreme Wild Fire Risk. Where Biasini lives was in that Extreme risk area. That area can be seen at the lower right of this map of Canada. It is the bright red area . The barn where Biasini lives has 20 horses.

It is not possible to evacuate 20 horses in trailers in any sort of timely manner. If the order came that we had to evacuate the horses would have to be turned loose to fend for themselves. I knew there would be no other way. But what would happen to my Biasini? Would he survive?

I decided that I had to get some livestock paint marker. I have seen that people in Florida paint their phone number on their horses’ sides, when they are in danger of the horses getting loose during a hurricane. That was what I decided to do. If Biasini escaped the wildfire and survived then at least someone would know he had an owner and could call me . If he did not survive maybe they could still call me.

This was my idea of the ultimate nightmare. But then a glimpse of hope. The forecast called for rain And today it is here. A good soaking rain. I will not have to call the feed store and see if they have livestock paint marker. This is why I am so delighted to see this whole day of rain.

This post is also appropriate for Jez’ Water Water Everywhere challenge.

Thank goodness for some rain. What a worry for you. The thought of painting your phone number on Biasini is so sad. It might be a daft question but can you microchip horse like you do domestic pets? Or do the chips move around too much? I think we all need more rain.

Biasini has a micro chip in his neck but it needs a reader and it only has his breed info not my phone number. I am going to get one of the emergency tags that Avery recommended.

I like the rain filled squirrel bowl. I’m partial to squirrels, Ha!

They like to have a drink on warmer days and the bird bath is too tall for them

Love the photo of drops on the leaf. I worry about fire danger where I live as well, and the recent rains are so welcome. I imagine you’ve had smoky skies there in Ontario. My brother lives in Toronto and I’ve been checking with him often. Take care.

Yes we have had smokey skies from the wild fires in Quebec and Northern Ontario. But our skies have not been as extreme as the photos we have seen from New York City. They are so severely blanketed.

We get smoke from fires in California and the west at times. It’s scary when the fires get close.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

I’m sure it is very scary!!😬

Wonderful blessing of rain! Keep in mind that you can also use permanent marker or something like that to write your number on their hooves. The problem with that and paint on the coat is that it can easily be worn off. Several years ago I invested in these ICE tags that clip on the mane and have all the horse’s info inside as we are in a hurricane prone area and a river flood area. I am glad that I have never had to use them, but I am also glad I have them when I do need to use them.

I can;t believe it but they will not ship to Ontario Canada! Too bad. I have tried to phone them and left a message but..

I hate to like this response! Bummer! I’ve ordered from the UK and Australia and it takes forever, especially while it sits in the no man’s land of customs, but not at all from here to there?!

Great to hear the rain came Anne. We’ve just had some rain here too, which was much needed with wildfires to the west and south of us here 🙏

    1. anne leueen Avatar

In so many places in the world there are these fires! I hope they will stay away from your area.

good news for us down south, below Ontario, as well

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes it is I hope it means less smoke air pollution for you .

How to care for horses during emergency events- that is a frightening prospect that far too many people have had to contemplate or actually confront. I’m glad that you didn’t have to cross that bridge and that Biasini and his barn mates are safe.

I’ve been praying for you there and for Biasini and all the horses at your barn. I had a feeling you were in or near the wildfires as we’ve heard so much about them in the news. Thank you rain!! Praying for more rain in the coming weeks! 🙏🐴❤️

      Thank you Diana.

So glad the rain came! We finally received almost 2″ of rain the last few days. We are in an exceptional drought for the first time ever in our county of the state.

Blessed is the rain that fed the thirsty land and plants and kept the fire away. I’m glad that Biasini is safe, I know it must have really worried you with the wildfires all across Canada.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes the news here is filed with wildfires in Canada and how many of them are out of control.
