What’s new?

I have seen new birds that I did not see all winter at our feeders. Here is a white crowned sparrow. This elegant little bird is a ground feeder and although they are supposed to be more rare in the East of North America I have seen as many as five at a time pecking about on the pathway and in the grass below our feeders.

I also saw a rose breasted gross beak. They do winter here but this the first one I have seen this year.

And there were also the familiar birds like the blue jays. In the winter I might only see one or two but now whole conventions of blue jays.

The male cardinal is often adding color to the scene but I have only seen the female once in the past week. Perhaps she is on the nest.

Some birds look like they are looking right at me when I am taking their photo . Look at this Robin. He’s says he is ready for his close up.

The goldfinches are still appearing every day.

And in the farmer’s field to the south of us seed is being sown. Last year this field had corn so we think this year it may be soybeans. Watching the farmers maneuvering these big machines around the fields is fascinating to watch.

Happy Mother’s Day to all who are celebrating it today.

Lovely collection of bird photos. I’m unfamiliar with most of them. Heard about some but still never seen them. Here are different birds and also the birds I South Africa are also different from here and yours.

It is interesting how birds all over the world are so different. I’m glad you liked seeing some of ours.

What a beautifully stunning array of birds the colours are so beautiful. It always fascinates me that something so tiny doesn’t get carried away in the wind & of course have so much attitude, adorable. I hope you had a lovely Mothers day.

What a great array of birds (none of which we have in Europe) I particularly liked the gathering of blue jays!

Yesterday I looked out and I counted 20 blue jays! Over the winter I never saw more than 2! They are so striking looking!

You are maintaining a beautiful environment for the birds to come and have a happy time in your garden.

I hope they are happy. They are getting food anyway. Once the weather is warmer we will put out a bird bath for them too.

You live in such a “bird rich” environment. Thank you for sharing the “bird wealth” with us.

That is a good way to look at it a “bird rich” environment. Thanks for that comment!

You have such beautifully coloured birds over there!
Happy Mother’s Day to you all!
In the UK, ours is in March.
My favourite is the sparrow with his stripey crown. I’ve never seen anything like it. 😀

The white crowned sparrow is handsome isn’t he. Thank you for your comment and Mothers Day wishes as well.

    Beautiful photos!
I love Blue Jays and Hummingbirds, they are my favorites.

I keep up to 8 feeders outside to attract a nice variety of birds.

Wish I could keep the Starlings away ugh. But I have gotten 23 species to show up despite them.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

The Starlings are the ultimate survivors! We had some in the winter but now not so many. We have a lot of red
winged blackbirds and brown headed cow birds that take over the feeders. Also grackles that are actually too big for the feeders but perch on them anyway. Thanks for commenting and letting me know you are a bird watcher too!
