The Weather Gods are Laughing!

This morning our 6 year old Grandson woke his parents at 6:15 am . “Guess what ? Mom,,,Dad,… There’s SNOW.” Well at his age this may be exciting but it is April 21st ! This is Spring’s little joke. The birds were not too happy about it and neither were the daffodils. Here are some photos.

This Chipping Sparrow cannot get onto his favorite perch due to the snow.
The female Hairy Woodpecker wants more food in the feeder. Some was provided within the hour.
This Robin thought that the season for having to puff up to stay warm was over.
This poor daffodil cannot support the snow. I rescued it later and it recovered to stand up again.
The blossoms of the Star Magnolia are weighted down with snow. But I am happy to say they recovered later in the day.

Today was the day I had booked my car in to get the snow tires off and the summer ones put on. Silly me. The weather gods heard that and decided to play a little joke on me. There was not a large snowfall but there was enough and although it did not affect the roads badly it was an unpleasant shock to go back to below freezing temps and a brutal wind that made it feel pretty grim.

The forecast is for warmer weather on the weekend.

Wow. I haven’t seen snow for more than a year. It’s refreshing. Is this still in Ontario, CA?

Yes this is Ontario Canada! We have had an abundance of snow over the winter and so for us the novelty has worn off ! Thanks for leaving a comment. Always nice to have opinions from other parts of the world.

Thank you. I think the plants and the birds and squirrels must have been somewhat shocked. But in some ways they take it in stride better than we humans do!

My four-year-old granddaughter woke up and put on her snowsuit to build a snowman before it disappeared. Wish I could be so enthused. Beautiful photos.

We feel as no more spring because of heat and you feel as no more spring because of snow, surely nature is joking on us. 50 50 exchange of weather will make both the places as heaven.

Three inches of “trace”, Monday night. All melted by noon on Tuesday. Tuesday night, 2 inches of “I’m not enthused about any accummulation” (local TV weather guesser). Was supposed to get some last night, but didn’t. Tonight, a trace is forecasted. Snow in April, not unusual for us in Colorado. Snow in May, not unusual in Colorado. Rain/snow mix, we’ve had that in June in the first week – unusual, last time 2019?

We got lulled into spring and almost summery temperatures and now this is a shock but it is not a rarity.

I recall a few snowy days in New England in early May. Nothing like it to diffuse your enthusiasm for spring. Happy birding

That photo of the magnolia blossoms covered in snow came out great. Lots of whiteouts and crashes around here, but already well above freezing, and looking like Spring will come right back.

Spring is supposed to come back tomorrow. But today we had MORE snow. It didn’t stay but it was still cold and windy. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

Wow! It got colder down here, too. Nothing very drastic during the day (about 50 degrees)… but mid and lower 20s and 30s throughout the night 🥶. I’m ready for this cold spell to be over, I don’t want to have to work outside with the horses when its that cold! (not that I don’t like hugging them to stay warm) 😂
Have a nice rest of the week, stay warm!

Incredible photos – Many years ago, I remember it snowing on my sister’s birthday one year (25th April) but not as much as this!

It’s the same in the uk – we had snow last week, but this week it’s pleasantly warm. I love that your compassion reaches to rescuing daffodils! 😊

Dang weather!! I enjoyed all your photos seeing how the snow interrupted Spring for a day. And as much as us southerners enjoy seeing snow photos, I can totally understand the need to be done with the snow! Here’s to hoping warmer weather will stick around soon! ❤️

Thank you I’m glad you liked the photos. This dramatic change in the weather was a shock and to be honest we have all had enough of wintry weather up here.

They are delightful. The dramatic change must shock the plants too. Wish I could send some sunshine your way. Sunshine, that I will have had enough of by July (or sooner). 😂 Guess we can’t control the weather, or live in multiple places throughout the year. Most of us anyway.

And to be honest the weather is never perfect wherever you live. And at the moment with the Pandemic most people are having to stay in one place. I think we are getting warmer weather this weekend!
