During the two and a half day drive home from South Florida my husband and I were glued to the Masters on satellite radio. I found the commentary describing the clothing of the golfers highly entertaining. Even for TV the world of golf commentary goes into descriptions of the golfer’s clothing.
“Hugh is in a blue and white stripped t-shirt with blue pants and white shoes.”
“Yes, Tom he’s in the white shoes despite the wet grass from the rain yesterday.”
“And a white ball cap that goes well with the shoes .”
Now can you imagine that commentary for dressage? Here is my take on it.

“Here is Charlotte Dujardin coming in now wearing a navy blue tail coat with red points.”
“Yes and matching red on the collar with silver piping. Very smart. ”
“She is wearing a helmet.”
“Of course. as you know Tom, Charlotte is a helmet wearer.”
“And her helmet is navy has a nice line of red, with silver piping as well, to accompany her jacket.”
“It is a Charles Owen helmet I believe.”
“Indeed it is. ”
And all of this would be spoken in quiet almost reverential tones!
Golfers and used-car salesmen have to be the tackiest dressers… But this is great! The hushed, almost reverential tones even though the golfers can’t actually hear the commentators is too funny.

I would agree. I think the golfers outfits are not exactly inspired but I guess they are practical and comfortable.

Oh how I wish Equestrian sports were more widely televised because I WOULD WATCH THEM. Especially with sartorial commentary. π But then again, I am the girl with a coffee brown dressage coat and brown boots…And I love seeing all the little subtle choices riders make in their show duds to both stand out while still meeting all the requirements of the dress code/rules.

I bet you look fabulous in your brown coat. I have a navy tail coat and helmet and this year I got a new pair of navy boots with a bit of patent leather shiny trim at the top. There are some interesting looks this year in Florida with purple coats and also green. So things are livening up a bit.

Maybe you can wear a Master’s champion green jacket next time you compete, Anne??? With embroidery of Biasini jumping over a fence made of golf clubs? And you can use a golf tee as a hat spindle? And maybe adorn the saddle with the bright orange golf balls hanging as deco?

Haha! Well I could try but in Dressage things are pretty staid and formal. Bling is allowed but only the Dutch team members can wear orange. But thanks for the suggestions!π

Funny but excellent descriptive commentary. I guess radio commentators have to paint the picture the best they can. π

There is also the time in golf to be descriptive. Other sports are too fast paced.
