Dancing in the Rain!

It was raining. A steady downpour of rain. But dressage riders can take that in stride especially if they are Canadian. Yesterday I went down to the Adequan Global Dressage Festival to see the Intermediare 1 Freestyle. The freestyle is where the riders and their coaches will choose choreography from the required movements of the level and set them to music. It is always fun to see the pairs dancing even in the rain. My Coach from home Belinda Trussell was riding as were other Canadians. This year riders will be competing in Florida for scores to qualify them for the Pan American Games that will be held in Peru this summer.

It may be favoritism but as a Canadian I will feature the Canadians who are riding for this post. First in was Tina Irwin and her horse Laurencio.

The next Canadian rider was Ariana Chia on Fiderflame.

The third Canadian rider was my coach Belinda Trussell riding Barb Sinclair’s horse Carlucci.

The last Canadian to go was Tom Dvorak on Carla Bahr’s Ribot

I think this photo of Tina Irwin and Laurencio in in the extended walk shows you what the weather was like.

  • RESULTS
  • 1ST TINA IRWIN AND LAURENCIO 75.9
  • 2nd JENNIFER BAUMERT (USA) AND HANDSOME 75.375
  • 3rd BELINDA TRUSSELL AND CARLUCCI 72.975
  • 4th ARIANA CHIA AND FIDERFLAME 71.675
  • 8th TOM DVORAK AND RIBOT 68.925

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE RIDERS. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MORE AS THE SEASON CONTINUES. PERHAPS IN THE SUNSHINE!

I see there was a dearth of wimpy Florida spectators…

Well, it wasn’t obvious that it was raining until you got to the last 2 photos, they all looked so poised and elegant! I guess if was warm rain it wouldn’t really make much difference (afterall I can go for a short run in the rain OK).

It was pretty cool temperature wise but not cold. So not too bad but not comfortable.

  4. Anne,

It’s been so long ago that I’ve ridden, I feel like I’ve totally forgotten what it feels like.

I went to the summer WEG competition last summer and missed seeing you there. (But you did tell me you wouldn’t be competing in Tryon.

I hope you have a good riding season and perhaps we’ll meet some day.

Hello Debby. I was at WEG to cover the dressage and in the media center and at the stadium ringside to take photos. It was quite an experience. Thanks for commenting.
