“You are only as happy as your least happy child.” A friend told me this when my kids were just little kids. I have found through my journey as a parent ( my ‘kids’are now adults) that this is absolutely true. I can only be as happy as my least happy child. But today, August 18, 2018 is going to be a very happy day. Our daughter is getting married at our house. Her fiancé is a wonderful human being and makes our daughter very happy. They have both been married before and during the last two years have blended their family into a working unit with two young girls and one young boy.
This wedding day will be a very happy one for our daughter. That means I will be happy too. I don’t usually post about things from my family life but today is the exception. There is also a special reason why I am thankful for my daughter. She brought me back to horses.
As many of you know I stopped riding when I was in university and did not ride for 30 years. At the age of 10 my daughter went to a riding camp in the summer. When she came home she ceaselessly asked to go riding, to find somewhere to get riding lessons, to see horses. So we began to look. We found somewhere that seemed like a good place and she started taking lessons. Then we were leasing a horse for her, a Quarter horse , Thoroughbred cross called Tradie.

When Tradie went up for sale we bought the her That was when I started back riding. For about six months we shared Tradie and then it became clear I should get my own horse. So I did and my journey with horses started again.
My daughter was a very keen rider. In 2006 she represented Canada on the Junior Team at the North American Junior Championships.

Now she is on sabbatical from riding as she is a mother and has a full time career as well. Perhaps, like me, she will return to horses later in her life. This Saturday she will have other things on her mind. This will be the day she marries the person she loves very deeply. This will be the day her mother…me… will be very happy.
Forgive me if I am absent over this weekend. Our son is also here from England for the wedding and we will all be very busy. I will post some photos of the wedding as soon as I can.
I’d love to hear from you!
