Lens Artists Challenge #266 :Time

The photo at the top is my great uncle Peter. He was in the British navy and went down in a naval battle in 1914 off the coast of Chile. In total 1,660 lost their lives in this battle. Peter lost his life one day before his 29th birthday. The second photo is of my son standing in front of the memorial to Peter. To me the resemblance is striking. I am so grateful that time has passed and although there are still wars my son is not involved in them. My great uncle lost is life in a war with the Germans. Time has passed and now Germany is an ally of the US, Canada, France and other countries that in 1914 it was at war with.

This is my response to this weeks Lens Artists Photo Challenge Time given to us by Donna of Wind Kisses.

    As soon as I saw your great uncle’s photo on top, I found remembrance to you too! It’s so great to have your relative’s photo for long time. Keep it and pass it to your kids, grand kids and great grand kids!👍

      I will do that Tanooki. My son saw the post and remembered having his photo taken in front of the memorial. He knows they look very much alike. I’m sure he is grateful not to have to be going to a war too.

    Wouldn’t it be great if we lived in a world without war? Without hate? Is that possible? Your son and your great uncle do look alike. So much that they could be father and son.

    Oh my Anne, the resemblance IS striking!! I was thinking exactly the same thing the other day as I watched some of the 9-11 memorial programs. We have been so fortunate to live in a time when we are not sending our sons or husbands to war. May we never forget those who have been lost along the way.

    Two handsome young men, Anne. I can definitely see the resemblance. Hopefully your son will never know the horror of war. My great-uncle, who served on HMS Indefatigable, was killed at the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
