When is a Weed not a Weed?

Weeds are flowers too once you get to know them .

A.A.Milne
This is Eutrochium Purpureum a.k.a. Joe Pye Weed.

So the botanical name sounds quite grand but calling this attractive plant a weed seems unfair. It is native to central and eastern North America. It is a tall beauty in my garden and I see it every day from the kitchen dining table. So I guess A.A. Milne was right. It is a flower, now that I know it, and it is a loved flower.

A weed is but an unloved flower

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Having now moved it up from Weed to Flower I think it qualifies for Cee’s Flower of the Day challenge.

My wife believes anything that puts off the smallest bloom, even one, is to be cultivated. We have a beautiful “weed” filled yard.

It’s a beautiful flower. I love dandelions and don’t feel they deserve to be called a weed, as well.

Wilne and Wilcox are brilliant. I have never liked the derogatory name “weed.”
