The humble dandelion . Back in the early 1980s I travelled to China with a group of horticulturalists( I was just a keen gardener along for the ride) led by plantsman Roy Lancaster. We travelled to Western China and also down the Yangtze river ( before it was dammed up.) In Central China we would go to areas that had not been cultivated such as the holy mountains. On one such mountain one of our group found what looked like a dandelion and presented it to Roy Lancaster. She said : “I think it’s just a dandelion.” But Roy took an interest and set about preparing it for travel back to England . It turned out it was a “previously undescribed dandelion” and it was named after Roy Lancaster.
The dandelion in my photo is not the one from China. It is from my own garden!
I’d love to hear from you!
