Swan Lake Family

The Swans live on a small lake just up the road from us . There were three cygnets but sadly now only two. Nature can be hard. My photo is a response to Terri’s Sunday Stills Song Lyric Photo challenge.

There are no lyrics for the music I have chosen. Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky . But here is a video. The music is very beautiful and the story is of love and tragedy but there is a happy ending. So for my swans there is also love and tragedy but the two cygnets, still growing and thriving , are the happy ending. Go to minute 3:30 on the video for the start of the “swan” ballet where the Princess is turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer!

Snapping turtles and coyotes! I am not surprised that some years none survive!

Hi, Anne. What a lovely, peaceful image. I’m sorry that one cygnet died. Yes, nature’s rules are tough. The music is lovely. La Scala! One day I’ll see a performance there, I hope. 😀

Oh they are so lovely Anne – but rumor has it that they can be very aggressive and I’m sure having young ones with them makes them even more so. Glad that the two cygnets survived, so many do not.

Every year the two swans arrive and then two Canada geese try to claim the small lake. The swans always win. Thanks for your comment Tina.

The photo was lovely. Sadly, I could not access the video. In any occasion, you are so lu Ky to have local swans in your area.

I’m sorry you could not access the video. I assumed since it was You Tube it would be available everywhere. We have swans in that lake every year. Some years several Cygnets survive and other years none survive. Snapping turtkes get the young ones in the water. We also have coyotes on land. I’m not sure what got one this year as it was bigger when it disappeared.

Just under the wire for getting onto the link list, Anne! Beautiful, poignant inspiration from Swan Lake, recognizing that nature can indeed be harsh.

That’s a great photo! Nature can be tough. My two swans left the water way by my house…I was sad about that.. Enjoy your weekend!
