As I explained in my last post we are back in a lockdown and today a State of Emergency was declared along with Stay at Home orders. But the Goat Trail in the Oakcrest Farm forest is open and that is where Biasini and I went on Wednesday afternoon. It was a beautiful day and warmer than is normal for this time of year in Ontario. I have not been on the goat trail since last autumn. I did not think the twists, turns, ups and downs of this trail would be too good in the snow and ice. But spring has arrived and off we went.
Here is the start of the trail.

A few turns in the trail as it goes through the forest.

And then we come to the Goat Trail part where it is up on one side and down on the other. Here the trail is quite wide.

We continued on . Soon there will be lots of young green undergrowth coming up through last years leaves.

We carried on to the end of the goat trail and then went on through the forest in a big circle before coming back to the barn.
It was a delightful ride and I am sure Biasini would agree. I am very grateful that with so much locked down the Goat Trail is still open for us.
Why is it called the goat trail? I expected to see some grazing in your photos. It looks like a lovely place for a ride.

We call it the goat trail because there is a long section where the path is very narrow and it goes up steeply on one side and down on the other. So we say our horses have to be like sure footed goats to go on that trail. No actual goats I’m afraid!

It is a lovely trail and so peaceful to walk through the forest with Biasini. We have another month of lockdown but at least it does seem they are getting the vaccine roll out to the areas where it is needed most . I think that will help.

So sorry y’all are back on lockdown! That’s like putting the soul in a burlap bag and the sun in a rusty bucket. Happy trails!!

At least the lockdown permits the exercising of animals and the Ontario Equestrian Federation clearly states this includes horses
