The morning did not get off to a good start. The news at breakfast on the radio was all gloomy predictions about the Covid vaccines. The day was bright enough but -10 Celsius with a wind chill making if feel -22 Celsius. I wanted to get Biasini out to the forest for a trail ride to break up the arena work. Was it too cold?
Then I looked at a post on a Facebook group I belong to “As Seen Through the Horse’s Ears”. The post was put up by a rider in Sweden out riding through a beautiful snowy forest and the temperature was -26 Celsius! All Right! If they can do it in Sweden Biasini and I can do it here in Ontario, Canada!
So with me bundled up in a down jacket and my arctic riding boots and Biasini in his fleece lined quarter sheet we set off at midday. The wind had died down and the temperature was still below freezing but far more moderate. The snow was quite deep in some places due to drifting and when I looked down I could see it was halfway up to Biasini’s knees!
We spent about 45 minutes walking along various trails. 45 minutes when I did not think about Covid or vaccines or anything but the trail and our surroundings. The perfect antidote!

I’d love to hear from you!
