Surprise!

A Surprise! Biasini wants to do some line-dancing moves! Take a look . Video is just 53 seconds. I will explain, after you watch it, why I had to put music over the sound track.

Why the country and western music? Well someone, who shall remain nameless, uttered a mild expletive when Biasini did his line dancing dart sideways. It is not possible to remove the soundtrack on You Tube so I chose some music that I think works quite well.

So what is important about the surprise? I had ridden Biasini past that door at least 6 times but on the 7th he saw something. So he felt it necessary to get away. I always try to quietly tell him “no, you’re fine, stay here.” And he does. But if I lost my balance and pitched sideways the outcome might be very different. The key is core stability. Ah yes the core!

Core Strength and Stability: The Rider

I need core strength to be able to stay upright and go with Biasini when he surprises me. How do I get that or keep that? That is where the Eldergym comes in. During the Pandemic I started to do the Eldergym classes online. These workout classes cover everything: cardio fitness, body strengthening, injury prevention, balance and of course Core fitness. There is no doubt in my mind that my fitness and strength have both improved in the time I have been joining the 30 minute online workouts of Eldergym.

The past couple of weeks my coach Belinda Trussell has really been raising the bar and I have had to step up and grab that bar! Here are a few Belinda quotes from lessons this week.

I want him soft in front with that amount of power behind.

You are going at 1000 rpm. I want you to collect the canter and get 1500 rpm. Collected but quicker. “

BEND! In EVERY corner!”

Sometimes you pause as you bring him back to collected canter. You can not waver in your thoughts at all!”

And now the horse’s core

He has to lift his core more than that. This was when I knew I had to do at least two half halts before the corner and one coming out of the corner. Yes! That’s it. When you have him all the way through you can feel him lighten up” And that was exactly what I felt. When I got him to lift and engage his core he was up and light in front.

So both of us, Biasini and me, need an engaged core. Biasini can engage his but he needs reminders to do it. I have to remind myself.

Stay safe, stay well and enjoy the weekend everyone!

  2. So beautiful to see the ride with music, it looks as you both floating freely. Yes can see Biasini went little near the entrance and can’t see any difference in your move looks so natural.

That would have been a neat move, if you’d wanted him to do it and were expecting it! That Eldergym looks like an excellent resource!

Haha! Yes if I had asked him to do it he might have told me it was hard to do. Riding a very fit and athletic horse can be interesting at times.πŸ˜ƒ

That was a decided slide left. I was hoping to hear the curse word, though (lol). It’s the sailor in me. πŸ™‚

Well it came from Belinda and she does have a professional reputation to uphold. She called him a colorful name so it was pretty mild actually.πŸ˜†

When my mare does something like this (don’t you just love how they can spook or shy at a door they’ve already passed 6 skajillion times?) my trainer often says something like, “little sh#tbox!”. More funny than indecent. I nod back in agreement.

  8. Well done Anne! The two of you looked great, and when he jumped to the side it looked like it almost was part of your routine, like you asked him, it looked like you were glued to the saddle.

To be honest Biasini is the type of horse that takes you with him when he spooks. It is as if he says ‘We better get out of here.’ Some horses think they need to get rid of the extra weight and dump the rider and just save themselves. 🀣

Haha, I Love the music you put to video!! And darn them when they see something and those are the tiny spooks that happen on the trail too! We all need a good core and I’ll have to check out the eldergym. I try and do yoga my daughter turned me on too. Yoga by Adrienne on YouTube. My daughter told me she came out with an equestrian yoga session recently, and my daughter said it was hard and kicked her butt! Haha, probably will kick mine too! I haven’t had the chance to check it out! πŸ˜€ I so enjoy seeing you and Biasini in action! So BEAUTIFUL! Have a super weekend!!

Thanks Diana. Oddly enough Biasini never spooks out on the trails. Hes relaxed then but when we start to work in the arena he gets pumped up and then he has the occasional spook.

  10. That was quite a flinch, I guess I do the same thing when a snake shoots between my feet, just instinctive I guess. Hope you two have a great weekend, gettin’ hot again here.
