Postponed! Tokyo 2020 will now be in 2021.

I am sure that athletes all over the world will be disappointed to see the Olympics postponed for a year. But I suspect they will also be relieved. This past winter season in Florida I interviewed the Canadian dressage riders who were competing with the goal of making the Canadian Team. I have not communicated with them since the postponement but I am sure they are relieved that a decision was made and a postponement of a year would mean that their horses could still be able to compete next year.

Here are the Canadian riders who, no doubt, will be trying again for a spot on the Canadian Dressage Team. If you would like to read my posts about them just click on their name.

Megan Lane

Brittany Fraser Beaulieu

Jill Irving

Jaimey Irwin

Tina Busse Irwin

Naima Moreira Laliberte

I should also mention that I was in the process of doing an interview with Lindsay Kellock when the US Equestrian Federation cancelled all shows and we knew that this would affect the Olympics. I wish all the best to these fine riders and their horses . A year is a long time but it is not a lifetime. They will be back looking for a place on the team next year. In the meantime they will continue to train at home and the horses will have a break from competition as all shows have been cancelled .

  1. It is sad to postpone or indeed to cancel someone’s Olympic dreams. Perhaps the Olympics will come back in 2021 as the world awakens after the pandemic.

I think most athletes will be able to go ahead for next year. Four years for the horses would be too long but one year is possible. Thank you for your comment and taking the time to read the post!

  3. This has messed up so many lives, including my daughter who had been wait a year for e post graduate job close to home. After spending an entire day at the company of her dreams, she got it. Before she went in to sign the contract, the C word hit. They now have told her that they will be in contact at some point. She is devastated.

That is terrible. Such a disappointment. My daughter works for an AHL hockey team as their marketing manager. The team is ot playing and season has finished right before they were to go I to playoffs. She said she is waiting to be laid off. Meanwhile she is working from home and homeschooling the kids.

Ah, I thought this might happen. Must be very frustrating for the athletes but the horses will be wonderfully oblivious!

Yes they will not care. However they will have known that something was up. When all.the shows got cancelled and the humans were all chattering about it I believe the horses knew something was going on. The horses do not know about CV 19 either. They are lucky.
