Below is a link (I hope, since I am not able to preview it) to the winning freestyle at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The rider is British Olympic gold medalist and multiple Champion Charlotte Dujardin riding Erlentanz. Here is what I find the most interesting about this ride. Listen to the commentators if you are not familiar with Dressage and you will hear that there is a miscommunication just before the canter pirouette. The horse breaks to trot, Charlotte recovers the canter and does the double pirouette. But now she will know that to get a winning score she must put the double pirouette in somewhere else! She is also just a bit behind her music. She rides on and completes other difficult movements of the test and then….she fits in a second attempt at the double canter pirouette and this time… perfect! She continues on and to finish the test in time with her music, she redesigns the choreography, and finishes perfectly in time for the final halt and salute. That is a top athlete not getting flustered after a mistake and while riding a very difficult test is still able to think ahead and plan for a second chance to get the winning score. That is how you do it!

Yes to be able to ride the Grand Prix movements and at the same time think about how to catch up to the music and how to get that double pirouette in…..Amazing!

Hmmm…I don’t know what to do about that. It appears on my PC and also on my husband’s PC if he goes to the blog website. But he said it was not on his email notice of the blog post.
