I know. I usually have photos of horses for the WordPress Photo Challenge. But for this one…..windows…..I am diverting from my usual equine direction. I do have one horse “window” but since I absolutely love taking photos of and through windows I could not resist responding to this challenge with a few of my favorites that I have taken recently in England. So here we go….
First up is a view from inside the Tate Modern in London looking toward St. Paul’s.
Then Salisbury Cathedral where the still waters of the Baptismal font reflect the stained glass window.
Next is Strawberry Hill near London. This was built under the direction of Horace Walpole in 1747-1792. He described it as a “little Gothic castle” . He was very keen to have stained glass windows but following Oliver Cromwell and the Reformation when many churches had their stained glass windows broken there was a scarcity of stained glass and Walpole had to have it made specially for his ‘little castle’. Here are a few of the windows.
And….here is a detail from a bedroom window. Yes ….horses!
My final window is from the entrance hallway in Wilton House near Salisbury,the home of the Earl of Pembroke. This window looks across the courtyard to matching windows on the other side.
