CSIO: Nations Cup

Saturday evening we went to see the Nations Cup at Wellington International. It was an exciting evening with 10 Nations competing each with a team of 4 riders. Canada’s team had Tiffany Foster, Erynn Ballard, Beth Underhill and Amy Millar. The best 3 scores count toward the teams overall result. There would be two rounds of competition .Scoring is based on a combination of faults and time. 70 seconds was allowed to complete the course. The team with lowest number of faults and the fastest time overall wins! The second round consists of the best eight teams after round 1. Teams will return in reverse order of total faults. Riders will stay in their original team order . I had the idea that Team GB with Ben Maher would do well as he has been doing well in the week leading up to the Nations Cup. But one man does not a team make. Tiffany Foster was the first Canadian rider to go round the 12 fence course designed by Steve Stephens and Nick Granat. Her horse is Northern Light,

Tiffany had two rails down and 8 faults.

The next Canadian rider was Erynn Ballard on Lidio van’t Hofken.

Erynn had 4 faults and no time faults.

Jessica Mendoza was the first rider of the British team. Jessica had 8 faults The next rider for GB was Tim Gredley. In the stands There were fans for Mexico

Also there were fans cheering for the Irish team

However Canada had the most fans and flags too!!

By the time we came to the end of round one the Irish had two clear rounds! The second round started after the sun had set. Team Canada’s Erynn Ballard had a clear round.

Almost all of the horses were willing to jump round this challenging course. But not all. Blue Movie said “NO!” and his TEAM AUSTRALIA rider decided to retire, her.

The Canadian riders did well in the second round. But the Irish were in the lead. With clear rounds or a low number of faults.

The final Canadian rider was Amy Millar. Amy had gone clear in the first round but had 4 faults in the second round.
