The Riders Speak: Brittany Fraser , Lindsay Kellock

Today I got up early to watch the last day of the Olympic Grand Prix. The first Canadian rider I saw was Lindsay Kellock. Her horse Sebastien was a bit exuberant at some moments. Here are Lindsay’s thoughts on the Olympic comepetition.

I’ve learned from this. Maybe Sebastien just peaked a little too early [after travelling] but I’m thrilled to be here,” said Kellock, who experienced the Olympics as a groom for Jacqueline Brooks at Beijing 2008 and for coach and godmother, Ashley Holzer, at London 2012. “I lost my brother in January, so that’s been difficult. I started qualifying a couple of days after he passed. But I know he wants me to be here and be competing. I feel he’s with me every day. I’m wearing a necklace that he gave me today. I miss him dearly but tried to do well for him.”

Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu rode in the final group today. She had an excellent ride on All In and a good score. Personally I think she could have been given a higher score for her harmonious test. Here is what she had to say.

“I think it was the best Grand Prix I’ve had to date,” said Fraser-Beaulieu. “I’m glad it chose to be this day. All In was spectacular in there, he went in and did his very best for me. He handled my nerves so well. I felt like the moment he went down centerline he settled in and he knows his job so well. It was an incredible experience for both of us: It wasn’t my best score, but the feeling I had underneath me was amazing, so that’s all I can ask for.”

Here are Brittany and All In.

I’m glad you are getting so much joy from following the riders and their horses in the Olympics, Anne. I haven’t been following it myself, but it’s lovely to see your photographs. All the best to Team Canada! 😀

Thank you. There are two more days of competition for Dressage ans then it will be the Eventing riders. I will only be following and writing about the dressage as that is my discipline. But if I get anything from the press info on the eventers or the jumpers I will post about it. I appreciate your comment!

Yes Anne, anyways small info’s of you are really helpful just for someone like me who could never befriend a horse. But i wish i will one day 🙂

I hope you will befriend a horse. They are amazing animals and they can see through all our pretense and our masks in a way other humans cannot. It is their survival skill.

The horses and riders at this level are so incredibly elegant and beautiful. Thanks for sharing their insight.

You are most welcome Tina. It has been fu for me to follow these riders in the Tokyo Olympics.

Hats off to your Olympic team. They look beautiful and it was wonderful to read what you shared! Thank you!

Thank you Diana. I think that for all three on the Canadian team they did a great job considering it was a first at the Olympics for all three. They were up against seasoned pros who have done multiple Olympics.

I read the quotes and comments, the one thing among riders, regardless of discipline, they talk the most about is the room for improvement. I’ve never heard any rider say “I don’t need to step it up.” They’ll talk about staying with what got them to this point, but they’re always looking for something to make a minor tweak to improve their performance.

And, I like Charlotte’s little pumpkin, Gio. Tells you good things come in small packages. If they don’t win gold this year, you know in 24 they might be hard to beat. 🐴🐎🐎🐴

I love Gio. My Biasini is 16.1hh and has a great hind end just like Gio. I think Isabel will take it this year but as you say look out 2024! This is a relatively new level for Gio and look how well he is handling it!!!!
