In the middle of the week Ma Leueen told me we were going out to the forest . I was delighted. As we were heading out one of the other Humans said: “Well you’re brave”. She said that because it was very cold. But Ma Leueen has a special quarter sheet for me that has a fleece lining. That helps to keep me warm. Here it is!
So off we went to the forest. The snow is very crunchy as it has some ice on it. I asked Ma Leueen to take some video so you could see the trail we went on. There were tracks of other horses, Humans, deer and other animals, some small and some bigger. I saw some tracks at the side of the trail and asked Ma Leueen to video some of them. She didn’t know what had made them. But I did. It was a big rabbit.
We had a nice long walk through the forest trails. On the way back to the barn we saw two other four leggeds. They crossed the path ahead of us. White tailed deer. In the photo below you can tell I had already spotted them. I have often seen these two, in the morning, as they walk along beside my paddock . Sometimes they come with other deer friends and relatives. The two who we saw are Hazel and Gertrude. Yes! They told me one time that’s what their names are. And why should I doubt them?
Then we went on down the hill to the big grass field. It is covered in deep snow now. When we took the loop around the back of the field I saw something. It was dark and lying on the ground, Danger! I quickly spun round and started to canter away. But Ma Leueen told me to get a grip on myself! It was just a big branch of an evergreen tree she said. She turned me back to it and I cautiously went past it. She was right it was just a tree branch. I felt a bit silly but it’s always better to be safe than sorry. If it had been a big black monster my reaction would have saved us. Ma Leueen knows that .
