Hello Dear Humans! The equine’s dentist paid us a visit this past week. Now…my human, Ma Leueen, told me that the last time I spoke about the equine dentist you all went squeamish and thought it looked so awful and you were very sorry for me. Well,I would like you to know that we horses do not have nearly such a tough time of it with the dentist as you humans do!
Dr. Jaimey gives me a little poke with a needle and quite soon I drift off to snoozeville. I am still awake but very relaxed. Ma Leueen has told me that when humans go to the dentist they have needles poked in and bits of their mouths are made numb but you are still wide awake. I prefer to be snoozing. I can be standing in the stall with my head supported quite comfortably and then Dr. Jaimey looks into my mouth. Want to see what it looks like inside my mouth? Here is a photo. Those are my molars on the right. Dr. Jaimey is holding my tongue out on the left. This photo was taken before she started to work on m teeth.

She goes in with her drill and files down any rough bits on my teeth. Oh , yes, I know some of you thought it was such a big drill. Well, Dear Humans, I have a very big mouth , way bigger than your mouths, so a big drill is necessary. Ma Leueen says the human dentist drills make a ghastly high pitched whining shriek. Dr.Jaimey’s drills make a nice low rumbling noise. Her she is at work smoothing out my teeth.
As you can see I look quite relaxed with the whole thing. To finish up she takes a look at my front teeth. As you can see I have a slight overbite.
Dr. Jaimey will adjust that with a smaller drill. Unlike humans I will not need to have an Ortho Dentist put wires and stuff on each tooth and then spend months or even years pulling my teeth around in my head. Braces is what Ma Leueen says they are called. We horses don’t need those we can just have any unevenness caused by the overbite smoothed down. No problem.
So there you have it. My teeth are all sorted out. Oh…and one other thing. Ma Leueen tells me that humans sometimes have problems with their gums. Seems that the gum pulls down away from the teeth and exposes the root of the tooth. We horses do not have this problem. And…Ma Leueen tells me that the answer to this is humans have to go to another type of dentist a Perry O’Dentist who does surgery on their gums. Surgery! This Perry O’Dentist sews flaps of gum skin onto the part where it has gone down. And you know what…you won’t believe this….sometimes those bits of gum tissue come from a cadaver! You know what that is? A DEAD person. Yup! They put bits of a dead person into the humans mouth and then stitch it into place. YUK! We horses never have to have anything like that.
So, no need to be feeling sorry for me. I am feeling much more sorry for you humans going around with dead people’s gums in your mouths. I told some of the other horses about this and the all freaked out. “EW!” “Biasini are you kidding?” “That’s gross!” That’s what they all said.
Anyway…I’m very happy with my nice smooth teeth. Till next time Dear Humans.
