How to ride Renvers.

I watched Lynsey Rowan riding Biasini. She did one exercise when she rode down the longside in shoulder in and then changed the bend to Renvers. I have always had difficulty with Renvers. I think it is a mental issue for me. Somehow I can deal with haunches in for travers and the shoulders in for shoulder in. But the haunches out toward the wall and the bend reversed? That is a tricky one for me. I know it is a valuable exercise as it helps to supple the horse and increase his ability to bend. Here is a video of Lynsey riding shoulder in to renvers. See if you can see that moment when the bend changes.

The next thing I was impressed by was a diagonal with flying changes. My Coach Belinda Trussell has often told me that she feels that Biasini’s flying changes could be more expressive and more “up” in front. They are clean changes but Belinda felt they could be more than just “clean” changes. Well today I saw them. This is a very short video with just a few changes but I can see that he’s up in front with his forelegs coming up and then out. In the first change this is particularly evident. Take a look.

When they finished their dressage work in the arena. Lysney had her big German Shepherd, Murphy, join them for a walk in the forest.

Do turn up the volume so you can hear Biasini’s hooves going through the leaves.

My instructor used to make us do endless shoulder-in to renvers. Then renvers to travers and back 4 or 5 times down a long side! It was more than my little brain could handle!! I like renvers but struggle constantly with shoulder-in.

Yes, I see it, how you described. When your hip is repaired and you’re back to riding, you’ll be doing the same. 🐎🐎🐎🐎

I think I will be able to do a better job of riding renvers when I get back. I have been having problems with my right hip and leg for most of last winter. Now I know why. The socket was worn out and causing inflammation and also it is not stable. So the silver lining of having the hip fracture is that the xrays showed this issue. Thanks for your supportive comment David.
