Porcupine Corn!

Today I am submitting some porcupine corn for Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge. I know…this is not a flower but I hope Cee will accept it anyway.

You can see how the top leaves of the corn have curved inwards creating a sharp pointed end. This is when the corn is in dire need of moisture and doing this causes any dew to drop down to lower on the corn stalk. Local farmers call this ‘porcupine’ corn.

We have had some rain but only light rain and clearly not enough to encourage the corn stalks to open up.

When I was engaged in ranching and farming we always dreaded seeing the leaves curling like that. We did get some rain a couple of days ago, but not nearly enough.

    Not a happy sign. From planting to harvest so much relies on the right weather at the right time. We need to get people on board to make a positive difference in climate change
