So many spider webs.Why?

This week I will have three lessons: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So today , Monday , Biasini and I set off for the forest. I knew there would be bugs and some of them might be biters! So Biasini had on his fly bonnet and I had sprayed him with a herbal fly deterrent. And I had my fly whisk. This is a foot and a half of horse tail attached to a foot long wooden stick. It has a leather handle to wrap around my wrist so I am in no danger of dropping it.

Off we went. Up some steep hills and down them as well. Then on we went and took the Goat Trail from East to West. I was using my fly swisher almost constantly. But Biasini doesn’t mind it even when I swish it past the side of his face. I think he knows it helps him .

We are almost at the start of the Goat Trail.

As we walked along I kept having to brush off spider webs. This is not something that happens a lot on the trails so why were there so many today? Then I realized why. There so many bugs in the air after the wet weather the spiders are having a feast and have set up their nets to catch these bugs. Later I saw one web that had three bugs already ensnared. The spiders are on our side I decided.

Flying insects aside it was a lovely trail ride. Temperature perfect, sun coming in through the trees. what more could we ask for? And it makes me smile to know the forest has lots of well fed and happy spiders.

Thinking of times that I could have used a fly whisk along the trails for flies and spiders. 😁

Spiders and dragonflies are on our side. They are the top predators in the millimeter sized jungles of the world.

Yes, I can understand that, but it does not bother me too much. I just brush their webs away.
