Where did I go on the Shortest Day?

I am still on my Christmas break but I must tell you that today Biasini and I went out in the snow to the forest. There have been two wind storms recently and a couple of big trees had come down right across the path. With one of them I could see that if we stepped off the path and went about 10 feet in the deeper snow we could get round the end of the fallen tree. Biasini is a true bushwhacker and he carefully navigated round the end of the big fallen tree trunk.

It was a glorious day!

Can you see all the tracks left by other animals? Foxes, deer and coyotes!

Yesterday I read about what Swedish Blogger Maria of Green Dreams did on the shortest day. Her photos of her walk in the snow are beautiful. Click here to see them.

This will most likely be our last ride in the forest snow. Next week Biasini and I will be travelling to warmer climates.

That’s a beautiful trail. Do horse’s get cold feet? I would have to put boots on Kalev’s little paws to walk on snow for very long.

Horses do not get cold feet. Their hooves are not susceptible to cold. Dogs are different and might need boots. Our little dog walked on the trails last year and did not have boots and didn’t seem to be getting cold feet.

Puppy Girl doesn’t mind a little but she has very little fur.

Hope you’ve had a great break and an easy trip south Anne. Loved your snowy walk and somehow am not surprised Biasini had no trouble navigating! BTW my granddaughter LOVED her gifts, thanks again for the help. Happy New Year my friend!

Thank you Kally. That is true. We were very happy to have pur son with us this Christmas in person and not virtually on a screen however. Best wishes for a healthy and happy New Year to you.

Relish that last winter ride before coming south. Safe travels when you come south, particularly with omicron lurking about. If you wear eye protection, wrap-around shades. You’ll look way cooler. 😎😎😎

Have good sessions in Florida. 🐴🐎🐎🐎🐴

I get the Guardian online and read it every morning. England is in a tough spot. Stay safe my friend and try to keep smiling.

What a contrast! From Snowy Canada to sunny Florida. How cold is it there?

    1. anne leueen Avatar

This winter it has been above average temperatures. The day we were out in the snow it was 0 Celsius. Normal would be into the minus. At least minus 5.

      1. Emma Cownie Avatar

        That’s very mild!

Your way of enjoying the shortest day looks absolutely fabulous! How fun! Growing up my friends and I renamed our Christmas break to “Bareback break”. During the Christmas break we were only allowed to ride bareback, no saddles allowed. It started out as a way to keep our butts warmer in the often very cold midwinter days of northern Sweden (were I lived then.) Later it became a thing, that we always used our Christmas break for bareback riding, working on our balance.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

HAHA! That is terrific. I am too old now for bareback riding. I often ride without stirrups but never without at saddle. I cannot come off and bounce back as I would have done when I was a kid.

        Same here 🙂
