Details!

It’s attention to detail that makes the difference between average and stunning.

Francis Atterbury.

Attention to detail! That was my main lesson this week with my coach Belinda Trussell. Details! They may be barely visible when executed but they make the world of difference. Here is a video of our canter warm up. We have done a long and low trot warm up but for the canter I must pick Biasini up in his head and shoulders, and bring him together into a shorter and more compact frame. When I start doing this he throws in flying lead changes. This is how I know I do not have him in the correct frame and must work harder to get him there. Once he is in that frame, he will only do a flying lead change when I ask for one. This video is a longer one but if you turn up the volume, and listen to Belinda, you will hear how much importance she places on getting the little details right.

It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make the big things happen.

My next video comes from later in the lesson. I had worked on the travers ( haunches in ) to the left and struggled with it . You will hear Belinda say Biasini is “lugging” This means he is pulling down. It is his favorite thing to do! In this video I am riding the travers right and half pass right. For some reason it is much easier in this direction. Previously I have had difficulty in going to the right and found going left easier. But now it has changed. C’est la vie!

I can tell you that after working on all those details I had to go home and have a hot bath in Dead Sea salts to restore myself!

Details create the big picture.

Your coach is tough. Even Mom isn’t THAT tough. You both know words I’ve never heard. All I see is Ma L. bouncing and bouncing and bouncing, and your feet in those white thingies prancing and prancing. I’m spinning in a circle watching you getting dizzy. But what do I know? I’m a bear. Mom says I plod. Love to you both, Manny xxxx

Hey Manny. Good to hear from you. I’m glad you realize it is a LOT of work. I have to be very fit. Ma Leueen is pretty fit too. Our Coach can be tough. But Ma Leueen says she likes that because lots of coaches don’t work hard with older riders and just tell them everything is Super when it’s not. She appreciates that Coach Belinda pushes her to get it right. 🐴

oooooh, you are both so brave! I hope Ma Leueen isn’t that tough on me. I’ve never ridden before. I’ll be holding on for dear life but I can’t wait!

Ms leueen will give you a strap to hold onto and she will hold you in the saddle as well. I will only go at a nice slow walk. So you need not be worried. 🐴

As a much better coach than I ever was said, “Take care of the trivial things and the important things will never come up.” Enjoyed watching you ride.

What beautiful videos and riding Anne! I loved the longer video and listening in on your lesson. 🥰 I think I would need a nice hot bath with dead sea salts for restoration too! ❤️🐴❤️

Thank you Diana. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

Precisely, it is all in the details. Pay attention to the details, then the rest comes. After a long day of practice, it’s a race to who gets the soaker tub first in this house. 🙂

Well I’m.the only one in this household who needs a restorative soak. Today we were up to watch hockey where our daughter lives. She is the VP of marketing and sales for the AHL team there. Wowsers hockey is sooooo fast. I had to up the shutter speed on my camera. It was great fun to watch

John Wooden was such a wise man. You are very perceptive to apply his words to the world of horses.

Thanks JWS his words seemed to fit.
