My Million $ Horse!

Biasini is not going to the Olympics. He is a very talented upper level Dressage horse but he is not going to any big Championships in Europe and winning classes in the Grand Prix. So why am I saying he is worth a million dollars? Let me tell you.

Today we went out to the forest for a walk about. I carry my phone in a pouch purse that I wear around my waist. I do this for safety in case something happens to us or to someone we meet up with on the trails. And, of course, I can take photos.

This is a narrow trail that I call the “link” trail as it leads from one wider trail northward to another wider trail. There are lots of roots that Biasini has to pick his way through and be careful with his feet.
Here we are homeward bound back to the barn. I took this photo to show some of the autumn colors that are just beginning to appear. The leaves are starting to turn yellow. I thought I could put this photo in for the Festival of Leaves challenge.

We took a turn to the left just before going up the hill to return to the barn. I wanted to see if the trail to the Goat Trail was clear or if there was still a tree blocking the trial that had come down in a storm about a month ago. We turned the corner and started down a steep hill. Suddenly I felt something fall out from my pouch purse. I looked down at the ground. It was my phone! Oh no!

Now for most of you riders it would be no big deal to dismount and pick up the phone and then remount. But for me it is a Very Big Deal! Anyone who knows me and has seen me clamber up onto my horse will know that my replaced right hip is not so mobile and I cannot just swing my right leg up and over the horse . I have to bend the right leg at the knee and then, with it still bent, lower it onto the right side of the saddle . And also ….there is no mounting block in the middle of the forest! What was I going to do? I decided that since we were on a steepish hill I would stand uphill of Biasini and that would help. I dismounted and picked up my phone and zipped it securely into my pouch. Then I positioned Biasini across the trail and myself uphill of him. I wrestled my left foot up into the left stirrup and then grabbed the saddle and hauled myself up. Biasini was standing with his face into a small tree. He did not move. Not one inch. Not a shake of his head…nothing. He stood absolutely still. I managed to get into the saddle and sat down.. I gave Biasini a big pat and told him he was the best horse in the world. Then we set off back up the hill to home.

Later he got extra treats and carrots. And a big hug round his neck from me. What a horse! For me he is easily worth a Million Dollars!

He knew I needed him to stand as still as a statue so I could get back on him and that was exactly what he did. Horses know. They just know. Let us never forget that.

You bet they know. Both Tara and Elizabeth aren’t the tallest of girls, coming in around 5-4 to 5-5. Deborah is the tallest at 5-8. All of their horses are tall, ranging from 17-3 hands to 18-2 hands. Lilith sometimes measures in at 18-3, but that’s when she decides to “stand” tall; her “normal” tall is 18-2. While they’ve dismounted and remounted in the woods, the three have said it would be useful if the horse trails through the woods have mounting blocks. 🐴🐎🐎🐴 😉

Haha! Well Biasini is only 16.1 hh. I am about 5′ 6:
I have shrunk down from 5ft 7 .. the hillside is what provided me with about foot advantage.

Amazing how our well loved animals know exactly what to do when needed. He is more than a million worth in love.

I am sure Trompje ( not sure of the spelling of his name ) would look after you just as Biasini looked after me.

He does it in his special way. I had an intense writing moment and he came to me stood against my legs as if to say ‘It’s okay’. That when I realized that I was stressed at that stage.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes they can read us so well. Thanks for sharing this story.

How sweet & kind is your Biasini, definitely more than a million would never be enough. So many times, sitting in the saddle looking down at my phone “really”. I can only imagine the challenge it must have been for you. I have had to find tree limbs to climb onto & swing gently into the saddle of a couple of my horses. lol. Easier to step up a tree than do the splits to the stirrup. Beautiful trails you have.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes they are really so nice to go out and ride through the woods. I don’t think I could climb up a tree and I’m not sure there were any suitable ones nearby. But at least I had the hillside to give me and extra foot or so to get my self back up.

      Yes he is !

He is such a good boy. I hate when I drop something and have to hop off to get it…because of the mounting back up! My Lito is so very tall, there is just no good way for me to do it with my short legs. I have to utilize anything and everything. A hill, ditch, log, stump, rock, fence, you name it. Luckily for me, I have much practice at this from when I was younger. Apparently my horses grew with me so it is all still the same!…except…I am less agile. BUT. I am starting to work on that. I have started taking dressage lessons again. My new Tuesday lunch date. I have had two so far. We hit the ground running and I love it.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yay! I am happy to know you are enjoying the dressage. It is a discipline that is useful for almost any equestrian pursuit!

  21. Cyranny Avatar

Yay Biasini 🙂 🙂 🙂 That is amazing proof that not only did he know what you needed, but he also wanted to help! No medal or trophy could top that 😉

    1. anne leueen Avatar

You are right C. He was looking after me.

  22. Sarah Davis Avatar

    Damn Good Horse!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

      Yup! Thanks Sarah!

That is a big deal to have a horse come through for you in a tricky situation. And the versatility to perform as an upper level dressage horse PLUS be sensible on the trails is a very special quality. Million dollar horse indeed.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I think it helps him a lot to get him out on the trails and out of the arena. Mentally and physically. And yes he understood I was in a tough spot and did the best he could to help out.

Hear, hear. I’m guessing it would’ve been a fair hike back, if you’d had to walk it. What sort of treats do horses like to eat, besides carrots I mean?

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes it would have been a hike and some up and down hills too. I have a friend who makes what we call “stud muffins ” they are little balls of oats and molasses. 😋 those are Biasini’s favorites.

      1. Robert Parker Avatar

Haha, hmm, funny name, and sounds very tasty.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

They smell good but I have never been tempted to eat one myself😀

Well done, Biasini! He’s not just worth a million dollars – he’s priceless. Give him another hug from me. I’m glad you managed, Anne. That must have been pretty frightening considering you were going down a sleep slope.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I will give him that hug for sure. I knew I could trust him so I decided that taking the upside of the slope and putting him sideways across the trail would be the best solution. And he proved me right!

    What a beautiful story 🙂
