Autumn! LAPC #167

This week Amy has given us the challenge of the colors of Autumn. On Sunday my husband and I took our little dog for an afternoon walk. We went to take a path that leads around a storm water retention pond. As soon as we got out of the car we heard a cacophony of honking! Canada Geese! I looked out over the pond and saw an amazing sight. There were hundreds of Canada Geese!

This is a sure sign of autumn. The geese are gathering and preparing to fly South. As we walked around the pond we saw two swans. Here is a photo of one among the geese.

This is a Trumpeter swan and he has a yellow tag on his wing .This means he will be followed when he migrates and when he returns next spring. He is on the pond all summer and probably wonders why so many of these noisy honking geese have taken over his pond.

As we walked we found some of the other colors of autumn. The purple of the wild New England Asters. These bloom everywhere here in the autumn.

We also saw many of these charming little white aster like flowers. Not sure what they are called.

The autumn colors in the trees are just starting. They are a bit later this year as we have had lots of rain and that keeps the green going a bit longer. But as you can see in the first photo the leaves are starting to change.

Thank you Amy for this Challenge . Click here to see Amy’s photos and also, in the comments, links to other bloggers’ responses. I am also entering this post as my first response to Dawn Miller’s Festival of Leaves.

Have a happy and healthy week ahead everyone!

How fun to see them practicing and so many of them at this gathering place. That is so awesome they track the swan and it’s migration. I can see the leaves are starting to turn. Love all the flowers, so beautiful! ❤️

There was a time not so long ago when they were worried about the numbers of the Trumpeter swans and that is when they started to tag them. Now I think the numbers are ok but they still seem to do the tagging.

What an amazing sight, Anne! I love the images of the geese and pond. It’s going to be a long migration for them. Beautiful fall flowers. Thank you for sharing

I was surprised to see so many Canada Geese on that pond. And they honk incessantly which is amusing too. Thank you Amy for the challenge.

Must be something to see and hear so many geese take off. The poor swan’s space has been invaded. 😁

The geese have to get going on the water before the can be airborne. Also they like to wait until it is not morning so that they can benefit from any updrafts of warmer air. I have never seen so many on a pond before. Thanks for commenting.

That makes so much sense. My hubby deals with the same issues of warmer temps and airplane performance on hot days. 😊

I hope the geese are well-fed & rested, and ready for their incredible migration. It’s always exciting to see those “V’s” overhead, and the speeds those big birds can achieve.

The day we saw them some were practicing take offs amd landings. Quite a spectacle.
