The Olympic Centerline Beckons!

Every dressage test from Introductory level to the FEI Grand Prix starts with “Enter at A”. On Saturday July 24, at 5pm Local Tokyo Time, the first rider will Enter at A and go down the centerline , halt at X to salute the judge at C and start their test. The Olympic Team and Individual Dressage competition will have begun.

The Grand Prix competition will take place over two days. Due to the heat the start time is later in the day and the class will continue until 10:15 pm. Then the riders and horses will have a day off and the Grand Prix Special competition will begin on Tuesday July 27. The results of the Grand Prix and the Special will determine the winner of the Team Medals. On July 28,the Individual Medals will be awarded to the horses and riders with the best results in the Individual competition which is the Freestyle to music.

Every one of those tests will start with Enter at A. All of those riders will have the view you see in the photo. Again my thanks to Alan Manning for this photo.

Thanks Anne for explaining dressage in your post. Now when I watch I’ll see more than a nice horse. 😊

Thank you Kevin. It is a tough sport to watch and understand what the judges are judging. Sort of like figure skating without the benefit of the tv commentators who tell us what to look for and why some move it well executed or not. I hope my posts can help a bit.

Sounds like someone is excited. Their COVID situation, however, is close to out-of-control, which is not good. Also, the vax news is not good either; they are experiencing high above normal breakthrough cases.

I heard today that there is a possibility that the Games may be halted due to the rising numbers. That would be extraordinary if it did happen.

It’ll be a disaster if a stop happens. My question is, you test positive in Tokyo, how do you get home? Those American athletes who tested positive were said to have been sent home. How? You can’t fly them commercial. COVID charters?

Side note: Yesterday and today, a lot of rumors of a few riders testing positive for COVID at the CSI show here in Denver. USEF has been dead silent. If there are none, they need to say so. If there are some, they need to say so. Either way, you can’t just stay silent.

Well it is a mess. All the photos I’ve seen of the Canadian dressage riders show them all wearing masks if they are not riding.
