The Pony Mad Child

Every little girls seems to become obsessed with ponies somewhere around the age of six to eight year old. Some then become obsessed with boys but the sensible ones stick with the pony addiction . For little girls their world of ponies is a mix of magic and myth, a fantasy where anything is possible. From grooming and preening to sharing wild adventures, their pony is their best friend and their confidante –whether it is real or imaginary.

    I was definitely a pony mad child and now a horse mad pensioner. Yay! I’ve never owned a pony or horse of my own, except for imaginary ones which are still with me. 😀 I’m so fortunate to be surrounded with ponies and horses in the fields where I live. They’re a constant joy.

    With Deborah and Elizabeth, they skipped the pony stage, going straight to horses. Bella, their aunt was into all things equestrian, primarily as a hunter. Of course, when Deborah and Elizabeth began to compete, it was with ponies, which we still have them, Cara and Magician.

    On the show front, it was a rematch between Deborah and Elizabeth only in the GP jump-off. You’ll have to wait for the recap. I had a hard drive failure. Working off the phone as your primary platform is not the best. While the girls offered their tablets, I declined since their tech has all of their practice and show notes. Oh well, …

      I look forward to the update. The little girl with the pony with the ribbon is now a teenager and rides in the jumpers.her coach is Amanda Derbyshire, the British show jumper.

    I totally get this, Anne! I was smitten with horses at a very early age (probably 6) and drew them, played with toy horses, kept scrapbooks, then we got a beautiful mare and colt when we moved to Oregon when I was 8. I was in heaven and could ride bareback around our neighborhoods at age 9. I was brokenhearted when we moved back to San Diego, CA when I was 10 but ended up taking riding lessons for three years. Wonderful memories. I hope that every little girl is mad for ponies!

    Such a wonderful post!! Girls and their ponies! I never owned a pony but my dad got me my first horse at 10 yrs old! I feel very fortunate, and still living the dream! ❤️

    So true my daughter never really got into it but my son did from a little tot, it was so hard trying to find things back then horse related that weren’t completely glittery girly. Thankfully nowadays there is so much more out there for the boys. Beautiful photos I especially love the first one giving her pony a well deserved kiss & pat, we don’t see enough of that on the pony circuit. lol so sensible to stick with the pony love.

      That photo was taken at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington Florida. The little rider is still riding and competing successfully in the jumpers. That photo was taken a few years ago and she is a teenager now. But I think her love of horses continues and she is a hard worker with no big headidness about her success as a rider.

    I was one of those girls – it was all imaginary I never got to ride one, let alone own one! I loved reading stories about them especially Elaine Mitchell stories about the Silver Brumbies.
