Will there be life after Lockdown?

Last year the lockdown was taken very seriously. Everyone really did stay home. There were almost no commercial planes flying over head , there was little to no traffic on the roads. But now, in the Third Wave and Third Lockdown people are more lax about it all. I think most people are still abiding by the rules but not all. The Covid numbers are improving slowly. . However, for the May long weekend some restrictions were loosened and certain outdoor sports could be indulged in . You could play golf or tennis and some parks allowed socially distanced picnicking. There were circles marked, on the grass in those parks, where small groups of people could sit on the grass and be the right distance apart.

Will we look back in ten years and laugh about having a picnic in a circle marked with white paint?

There will be life after lockdown but what it will be like is not exactly clear. How long will it take before we will feel entirely comfortable in crowds of unmasked people? How long will the vaccines be effective for? Will we need boosters? These thoughts bring me out in a rash of further questions. But what really matters?

For me what really matters is the loosening of lockdown restrictions mean I can have lessons with my coach Belinda Trussell. Lessons were not permitted during the lockdown. This was primarily to stop riding schools who have classes of several students in the same class . But for those of us who ride in private lessons it was tough. But now we can have lessons…outdoors. Lessons in the indoor arena will have to wait until mid June. No problem! The farm has a beautiful outdoor arena.

So look out world! Biasini and I will be back and posting about our progress!

“What really matters.” That does tend to rise to our attention in lockdown. What joy for you to get back to your lessons.

Thank you Rachel. It makes a big difference in my life to be back in training.

Everywhere is a little different and in our area, other than government employees isolating at home and wearing masks in stores, every one kept life up with as much normalcy as possible. I’m always interested in people’s experiences because COVID greatly increased our work load, hours and business. Ready for the world to be normal again, whatever normal is… 😁

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I agree. For me it will take a bit of confidence building to be relaxed in big crowds again.

Totally understand. It’s like everyone of us, to one extent or another, is a bird with varying degrees of broken wings, and now we’re all trying to soar high and free again.

Jeff that is a fabulous image. I agree we have all had our flight feathers trimmed to some degree.

Life will continue on, but it will be very different. To a degree, we will continue with mask wearing, physical distancing and keep using hand sanitizer for some time. Moreover, people understand the vaccines, as they are, but we can’t keep taking shots every 6-9 months for the foreseeable future. People understand better than what the “experts” credit us with.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Sometimes I feel the experts, especially the ones in government positions, think we are too stupid to understand the truth. At least that is how I feel here in Canada. Thanks for your comment David.

Outdoor lessons seem like a nice compromise (although your indoor arena wasn’t really “indoors” was it?)

    1. anne leueen Avatar

In the winter the indoor is all closed up so technically it is “indoor”. But at this time of year all the windows on the sides of the arena are open and there is a big garage type door on one side and it is open too So it is very”outdoor”. But Belinda does not want to contravene the provincial regulations as she could be in trouble if she did. There are people who might report her out of envy. So its fine we go to the outdoor arena.

He came early!! Within 2 days of calling for shipment they called me as there was a van leaving Kentucky heading for Oklahoma! (So much for a two week wait! Haha!) So he was picked up a week ago and he made it to California last Saturday night near midnight! I shared on last week’s coffee share which I was so busy I didn’t post till late Sunday night. WOW! How did I miss that post? I thought I had seen your coffee share last weekend. Maybe it was too late for me or something. Anyway this is very exciting and I wish you all the best with him and I hope I will nto miss anymore news about him. Have a great weekend!

How sad is humanity that a spot has to be painted in a park for social distancing picnic, I must say when this all started it was very hard to stand on a spot in a shop & not perform a song & dance.(like a stage marking) I often find myself grinning like a nutter on my own in the shops. haha. So glad it’s Spring & you can have lessons outside must be such a relief. It would’ve been great if you could have a skype lesson using an ear piece to listen to your coach during lockdown. Would be funny she could zoom in on yas if she needed. Now she can zoom in on you in real time, lol. stay well & have a saddle happy weekend ahead.

My son sent me a photo of a Covid Security man , at least that is what his high viz jacket said he was, who was standing in a line up that was clearly marked as to where each person had to stand. He was standing about 6 inches behind another person and had no regard whatsoever for the designated standing spots. I had to laugh. You have an happy weekend too.

That’s great. I don’t think Florida has any restrictions, because everyone is in our area. Crazy busy.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I don’t think there have been many restrictions since the beginning in Florida. We were there when it all started and there was nothing. People we know there cannot understand why we have a lockdown

      1. susiesopinions Avatar

I can, because of family in England

Good to see the lessons in different location. And yes now covid is not taken seriously as before though number is increasing everywhere.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I am hoping that our numbers will continue to go down. If they do not we will have to remain in lockdown. But I would rather have that than another spike in Covid cases and deaths. Thanks for reading the post and commenting Rapala.

I’m so glad you are able to resume lessons. Every little bit of normalcy helps. Our mask mandate was lifted less than a week ago. I too worry about unvaccinated people acting as though they are and not masking up as advised. It’s quite a confusing situation, as individual businesses can still require a mask….like at my gym. We attended a baseball game last night…my first contact with a large mass of people for over a year. It was a bit uncomfortable, for sure. I really don’t want to be surrounded by strangers (lol!). I think it will take some time….

      I could not agree more!

Great that you can have your lessons again! The situation is much the same in the u.k. – restrictions are being eased, but there have been surges of the Indian variant in some parts of the north of England. I hope people will be sensible, as I can hardly wait for the riding stables to re-open. 😀

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I saw on the BBC ( via PBS in the USA) that the Indian variant was causing some problems in the UK so stay safe and well!

Thank you, Anne. Hubby and I have had both vaccinations, but we still need to remain cautious at the moment – careful but hopeful.
