Monday, April 5th, 2021 was a beautiful sunny day. I rode Biasini in the outdoor arena, my first time this year in the outdoor.

A few weeks ago this arena was under two feet of snow. Then came the thawing and melting and it resembled a small lake! But now Carl, the barn manager, has harrowed the arena. It is in perfect condition.
I did a quick warm up with Biasini and then some of my ‘homework’ from my lessons with Belinda. Once we had finished that I took him for a short walk in the forest. It is only two minutes to get to the forest trails from the outdoor arena.
For me this first ride in the outdoor meant that spring was here. The weather was perfect. The temperature is a bit above average for this time of year but I’m not complaining.
Here is what I AM complaining about: another province wide Covid lockdown that means Belinda cannot teach lessons. But shopping malls and big box stores remain open. What’s with that? The CBC evening news had video of dozens of people walking into one big mall to shop. There must have been hundreds of people inside milling about. But Belinda cannot teach? We’re told the blanket prohibition on riding lessons is to stop lessons in riding schools with several horses and riders in one class. But it doesn’t matter how many people are jostling each other in the malls. Oh……and one more thing. Toronto and another district have closed all their schools. The Covid numbers have rocketed up recently in Ontario so I understand something has to be done but leaving shopping malls open and closing schools makes no sense whatsoever. Kids need to be in school! Not just for education but for social interaction and learning life skills.
That is enough from me. I am so grateful for being able to ride Biasini. Owners are permitted to ride their horses in this lockdown. So when I ride in the beautiful outdoor arena or go on the forest trails my sanity is saved!
