Does your horse have dry skin in winter? Dandruff? Dry rubbed spots from blanket wearing? I think most of us who have horses in colder winter climates deal with all of these problems. I have found a product that helps a great deal. Omega Alpha’s Herba Coat. Herba Coat is usually an after bath conditioner. It contains citronella, lavender, neem oil, aloe vera, sunflower oil, glycerin, and water. I always use it in the warmer weather or when I was in Florida after bathing Biasini. He is a chestnut horse and has sensitive skin. This winter we are at home in Ontario and he is blanketed in the barn and another blanket layer goes on for turnout.
After he has been ridden I lightly spray him with Herba Coat and rub it in with a soft flexible curry in a circular motion. Then I brush again in the direction of the hair growth. This has kept his skin in better condition over the winter. He has not developed any horse ‘dandruff’. He does have some rubbed spots from blankets and I have him wearing a shoulder protector for that. But the Herba Coat conditions the rubbed areas and the hair grows back . Also his coat looks healthy and has shine even in the clipped sections.
So I would recommend using Herba Coat in the winter as well as an after bath conditioner in the summer.
