Shedding blades, Sunbeams! It’s the Letter S….

This week Patti gives us the Lens Artists challenge of subjects that start with the letter S. Here we go…

SNOW SCULPTURE by Nature’s North Wind.

And SUNRISE by Sun Up and Color the Day!

Next is SUNSHINE by The Sunbeams

And finally SHEDDING BLADE courtesy of Biasini’s fur starting to SHED. Biasini has a trace clip so the top part of his body has lots of longer winter weight hair. Now that the days are getting longer, here in the north, his body clock tells him spring is coming and then the winter hair starts to shed out. Here is a photo by Lexi Bradbury that shows his longer hair. That hair is starting to shed and the long hair on his legs is shedding also.

This is a naturally occurring process but to maintain a good shiny coat I use a soft flexible curry and rub him in a circular motion. This brings up all the loose hairs and then I use a shedding blade to remove them from his coat. The shedding blade has a slightly serrated edge and this removes any loose hair. And yes we all wear masks in the barn!

Thank you Patti for this weeks challenge. Thank you to all of the Lens-Artists: Patti, Amy at the World is a Book, Tina at Travels and Trifles, Ann Christine at Leya . If you would like to see their responses to the S challenge just click on the links. Each week one of the Lens Artists gives us a photo challenge for the week. The challenges are always fun and I certainly appreciate the work the lens artists put into creating the challenges and replying to all our responses to the challenges.

Perhaps because we only see it once in a blue moon (three times in 20 years in fact) I love your snowy image in this set Anne. I also learned something in your discussion of Biasini’s coat. I had no idea horses shed! Does he enjoy it???

I don’t think he cares. In the winter as they are blanketed all the time they get very dry skin and sometimes they get itchy. I find he likes the curry now and it is not usually tolerated too well by him . I also spray a conditioner on and curry that in so his skin is not so dry. I’m glad you liked the photos. The snow image is similar to desert sand blown by the wind I think. Thanks for your comment Tina.

Beautiful photos I can almost feel the warmth of the sun & feel the cold amazing snow. Our old horse Danny sheds enough hair that I use it to line the base of my pots when planting. lol, it works great. The scrapper your using is great isn’t it, especially to get in all the curves & follow the hair direction. Your Biasini is just beautiful. Thankyou for making this morning a wonderful start to my day.

I will remember the idea of putting horse hair into the bottom of plant pots! I just have to remember to bring it home from the barn as Biasini is not living at our home. I am so glad my post gave you a good start to your day.

Fantastic colors of sunrise, your picture shows how miraculously nature works including the information about Biasini ‘s hair fall

Yes Biasini does not worry about Covid or whether spring will arrive. His heavy winter coat follows the increase in daylight hours and starts to shed. It is a process that goes on for weeks and finally a nice, summer coat grows in gradually replacing the winter one..

Hi, Anne. I knew your post would be a delight! Fascinating. I didn’t know that horses shed their winter hair like that. Interesting! Your snow sculpture image is my favorite this week. Take care and enjoy the week.

That snow sculpture is what is on top of our front lawn. We have had more snow so now it looks different. Thanks for your comment Patti.

Great S’s, Anne! That sunrise is really beautiful, Natural snow sculptures are interesting and Biasini – I bet he liked that shedding blade to get rid of the long hairs!

I like that shot of the sculpted snow! I guess it’s appropriate that Biasini’s two-tone look reminds me of saddle shoes. 🙂

Haha! I like the saddle shoes idea. I used to wear those to school.
