Biasini Speaks: Facts about the Lockdown

Hello Dear Humans! You already know that due to the lockdown there are no lessons from Coach Belinda allowed. So you are thinking I am having an easy time of it. Ma Leueen will not be working me too hard. Well, let me tell you I am NOT having an easy time of it. Coach Belinda rides me twice a week. The humans call it training. Do you know how hard I have to work then? I know I must do my best work when she is on me. I want her and Ma Leueen, who is watching us, to be proud of me. Yesterday Coach Belinda had me do canter half pass the whole way across the arena and a full pirouette in the middle! Whew! No easy time of it for me. That’s a fact!

But another fact is that Ma Leueen takes me out to the forest one day in the week. There has been a lot of snow and so I have to bring my legs up to step over it as we go. I like it out in the snow. Here is a photo of me looking back toward the barn. The big window is the indoor arena.

When we walked across the field, in the photo above, the snow was up over my knees. Yup! There was a lot of snow. But is it fun and I am careful about how I put my feet down in the snow. All the Barn Humans say I am very Sure Footed. There was a lot of excitement yesterday as it seems the Lockdown has been changed to a Red Zone, what ever that is, and we can have lessons again. Ma Leueen will be happy! Till next time Dear Humans. Stay safe and well.

Wonderful to hear from you, Biasini. Glad to know you had fun walking through snow. 🙂

Wow, that’s a lot of snow! Up to your knees! I won’t go jumping into that snow, I’ll get covered up and where will my Mum find me again? It’s good to know that you are in control of your feet. Do you think it will help if I use swimming movements in that snow? Nice chatting with you. High paws/hooves, licks too.

Well Trompie if you are the same size as the little dog Ma Leueen and David have it would be almost impossible to run through the snow. You would have to leap up and keep jumping to get over it. I hope you do not have that much snow where you live. High paws and hooves to you Trompie. Nice to hear from you.

      1. scrapydo2.wordpress.com Avatar

No we hardly get snow here only high on the hills. Sounds like a whole adventure. Keep on moving! It’s good for the body and soul too.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

You are right Trompie. Stay well my friend!

What else does “red zone” mean for you all?

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Good question. It is smoke and mirrors to me. It supposedly sets numbers of person who can gather in one place. Shops and restaurants may open at 25% capacity. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me as who is going to enforce this. But on we go.

      1. Emma Cownie Avatar

Well, here whenwe weren’t in lockdown the local council used to check on businesses and if they were found to be breaking the rules, they shut them down for a couple of weeks. This happened to one local pubs that allowed crowding to happen on the pavement outside.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

Our Provincial government has inspectors that go out to inspect businesses. There have been some fines for big box stores and also some fines for greenhouses where there are workers dealing with fruits and vegetables and not having enough distance etc. The locked down region west of Toronto has had big outbreaks in those workplaces. Most of the workers are from Central America and Mexico. They continue to work when ill as they need the money to send home and it is a sad story really . This has been known for months but it continues. Some of the employers are really good and get the workers into hotels to do a quarantine, make sure they get medical attention if needed and continue to pay them but some others are not so good.

          1. Emma Cownie Avatar

There have been plenty of stories like that in the UK – clothing factories in the Midlands that never closed and forced worker to work when ill, food processing plants where social distancing is not observed and most shocking of all a local governemt department in Swansea the DVLA (Driving Licence Agency) where 500 staff got sick because they made all workers come into work when a lot of them could have worked from home. People who worked on the phones were made to sit back-to-back, with out masks. One poor soul died too. They helped spread the illness through the area.

          2. anne leueen Avatar

Shocking! Well the region here is paying a price for it as they are still in a full lockdown. Sadly many businesses that have nothing to do with the migrant worker situation are also paying the price.

    2. anne leueen Avatar

Toronto and another region west of Toronto are still in lockdown. So people just drive to a zone that is more open. Its a very tricky business trying to subdue this virus.

      1. Emma Cownie Avatar

Yes, people have tried that when Wales and Engalnd had different rules too. We are all in lockdown so that makes things a bit easier. When the police catch people driving from England to climb up the Brecon beacons they get fined and it appears as a story in the online Welsh newspapers. I expect a lot more goes on that never gets picked up.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

David, my husband, gets news of Wales in his Guardian daily news He told me you were still in lockdown. I think we should be as well but there is a lot of pressure to open up and get the “economy” going. I just shake my head. We have the new variants here now and as they spread we will just have to be back in lockdown.

          1. Emma Cownie Avatar

Yes still in lockdown, since before Christmas. There’s talk of opening the junior schools but I think its too soon too. We need many more people to be vaccinated and the weather to be warmer so more outdoor socialising can go on. The new variants are a worry too!

It’s so wonderful you are staying in shape from coach Belinda who asks you do to pirouettes and half passes across the arena! I bet you are beautiful as you work with Ma Leueen watching! ❤️ You may live in a cold area, but it is so BEAUTIFUL!! I love the photo of you looking out over the winter snowy view! I’m so happy you get out in the forest for some fun trail rides! ❤️🐴

Thank you for this nice comment Diana Human! It is nice to be out in the snow. I enjoy it.

From the showjumpers at North Ranch, mainly me, Lilith. We hope the heater is on in your barn too. Fortunately, we have a heater that circulates hot air through our barn. It came in handy when it was brew-tall cold outside. We still haven’t figured out what a tall brew has to do with the cold, but apparently there is a connection. We also have our blankets/coats on too. I need extra since us TB’s have naturally shorter furs. Next weekend is a training weekend, we get to do some jumping, nothing too high. But when our mistresses are on spring break, it’ll be long practice sessions everyday. My Elizabeth Human says I don’t need much practice since I’m riding like the wind. When you get back practicing, you’ll have to show off to Ma Leueen what you learned from Miss Belinda.

Stay warm, and ride like the wind! 🐴🐴🐴

Hello Lilith, How nice to meet you. We don’t have a heater in our barn but the walls are thick and when all the horses are inside it is quite warm enough for all of us. I have a nice warm blanket to wear in the barn, It has a belly band which I like. I will do my best to show off to Ma Leueen when she is riding me. Coach Belinda always asks me to do these very advanced dressage moves which are pretty darned difficult. But I can manage it ok! Riding like the wind. That sounds good. In the summers when we go out to the forest loop I like to gallop like the wind. Thanks for stopping in to say hello and tell me a bit about yourself. Stay warm!🐴

From Lilith – I’m an OTTB, kinda washed out on the TB racing circuit. I would practice good during race week, but come Saturday or Sunday, always in the back of the pack. My biggest “flop” was the Travers Stakes in Saratoga. A mean sportswriter said I wasn’t good at anything, probably not good as the main course at a fancy Paris restaurant. The sportswriter saw me last summer and thought I was the same old horse. Elizabeth Human set him straight. When he wanted to interview her, she said not a chance.

Anyway, I got sold a few times. I was owned by a well-known dressage trainer, but I didn’t know who they were. Dressage didn’t work out. I was at my last TB auction when Elizabeth Human and family were looking at horses as part of an instructional with their coach. Both Elizabeth and her sister Deborah, and I, looked in each other’s eyes. I knew Elizabeth was the one. Well, mom and dad looked at their checkbooks and showed my owner at the time their final price. Since no horses were being successfully auctioned, he took the money. Though I was called by a short version of my formal name, I didn’t answer to it very well. Then one day, at the barn, Elizabeth had the TV tuned an old episode of Frasier. Somehow the name, Lilith, was said, and I poked my head out of my stall. I heard my name being called. So, that’s the short version of my story. 🐴🐴🐴

        1. anne leueen Avatar

Lilith Equine that is an amazing story. I am so glad you found your Elizabeth Human. I have not had many owners. I was born in Germany and when I was 4 I was sent to an auction. Coach Belinda was there and she rode me and bought me. I was with her for a few years and then Ma Leueen came to try me. I knew right away she was my person. I felt like I had known her for a long time. Thank you for telling me about your life. I’m glad you are happy now.🐴

It looks beautiful in the snow Biasini and so happy to hear how sure-footed you are! Great news that you’re now entering the red zone and that you and Ma Leueen can have your lessons together again! 🤗💖 xxx

Thank you Xenia Human. It is good to be sure footed in the snow. Otherwise I would not be able to go out to the forest trails!

  9. sandyjwhite Avatar

Wonderful news about your lessons! Sounds like great fun walking through all the deep snow, Biasini. That would be a workout in itself!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

It is a workout Sandy Human but it is a fun one. Thwnks for leaving a comment. 🐎

Beautiful! You must be very cooperative if Ma Leueen can hold the reins, take a picture…in the cold…and somehow manage to keep the landscape horizontal. I love those over-the-ears views.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Hello Etikser Human! Humans have opposable thumbs which makes it easier for them to hold their phones and take photos. She does have to take her gloves off though. I glad you like the photos. Thanks for letting me know.🐎

Yay for lessons starting up again. The view from your walks is beautiful all covered in white.

I love your stories and your photo escapes. 😀
Living in the desert, I can only imagine (or travel to) snow like that.
I am sure for those, like you, dealing with snow, you could use a warm escape.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Michele Human. I usually go to Florida in the winter but this year Ma Leueen chose not to go because of the Vye Rus. But I have warm blankets so I’m ok. Thank you for your comment. 🐴

Love your creative choice of my name and the pandemic. Puts a fun twist on something not fun.
