The Perfect Antidote!

The morning did not get off to a good start. The news at breakfast on the radio was all gloomy predictions about the Covid vaccines. The day was bright enough but -10 Celsius with a wind chill making if feel -22 Celsius. I wanted to get Biasini out to the forest for a trail ride to break up the arena work. Was it too cold?

Then I looked at a post on a Facebook group I belong to “As Seen Through the Horse’s Ears”. The post was put up by a rider in Sweden out riding through a beautiful snowy forest and the temperature was -26 Celsius! All Right! If they can do it in Sweden Biasini and I can do it here in Ontario, Canada!

So with me bundled up in a down jacket and my arctic riding boots and Biasini in his fleece lined quarter sheet we set off at midday. The wind had died down and the temperature was still below freezing but far more moderate. The snow was quite deep in some places due to drifting and when I looked down I could see it was halfway up to Biasini’s knees!

We spent about 45 minutes walking along various trails. 45 minutes when I did not think about Covid or vaccines or anything but the trail and our surroundings. The perfect antidote!

I like the thought of the snow coming half way up to Biasini’s knees!

It’s a lot of work for him to get through it. Not all of the trails have that much snow though. Its a different form of exercise for him.

Leisure time with your favorite friend is a balm for the soul and as you say the perfect antidote. My dogs don’t care about the snow when we walk, although my little Aero, who’s 10 gets his warm coat! Enjoy! And do it again soon!

I will for sure Terri. Our little dog is young but she still gets a warm coat when the Temps are well below freezing.

Look at all that snow. Last time I saw anything remotely close to this was around 7 years ago in Russia. Glad you could have some fun out there 🙂

What a PERFECT antidote! I did the exact same thing this week and went on a trail ride on my Miss Chloe. It was so nice to be out and be with one with her as I reflected on my week. I am so happy it clears your head and gets you into a much better happier place. Oh, and I found that FB group and just clicked join. That sounds like a fun place to share with like minded horsey folks! That really made me smile along with your snowy, beautiful ride! Give your beautiful boy a carrot and big hug from us! <3

I’m glad you got out there! I relate to this. I recently started taking lessons and it is definitely the best part of the week. It’s great to get out of my head for awhile and focus on the horse instead. 😊

Indeed it is. Glad it works for you too!
