We had about four inches of snow earlier this week. The squirrels come to our bird feeder and pick up what has fallen to the ground. But for the little squirrels it can be hard work getting down through the snow to the seeds. My little friend White Ears persisted however.

The effort is worth it when some food is found beneath the snow.

Toward the end of the week the snow began to melt a bit . I found it very interesting to note that the squirrels were much more tolerant of each other. Even the black squirrels, who are usually very aggressive with each other, were happy to be getting something to eat and did not feel it necessary to fight.

Perhaps humans could learn something from this. In hard times we could set aside our disputes and just get along together. Be like the squirrels!
Exactly! We should be more like the squirrels ๐ฟ They are so beautiful ๐

I’m glad you enjoyed these squirrels. They entertain us everyday outside our kitchen window picking up the seeds dropped from the bird feeder.

I’d feel a lot better about the whole winter thing if I had a nice built-in fur coat comparable to the ones the squirrels have. Summer might be an issue though.

I think in the winter the squirrels and the birds puff up their feathers or fur. The squirrels also bring their tails up over their backs to keep warm. Having watched them on the hottest summer days I think they are fine. We always have out flat bowl on the ground with fresh water and they drink lots from that. So I think they adapt well.

The little animals show us how to co-operate with others whether in…or out…of the snow.

I have to be honest and admit that today, since we had a thaw on the weekend and most of the snow is gone and we just have below freeing temps today, the black squirrels are not so friendly and there has been a bit of skirmishing! But no flat out fights!

There is more snow forecast so they will all get along well then. Hard times for little squirrels getting through the snow.

I notice that there’s a dove there too! I guess fighting takes up valuable engergy!

We get lots of doves. Sometimes as many as 8 at a time. But not that many when the squirrels are there. Today we have no snow so the squirrels are back fighting for space.
