We had about four inches of snow earlier this week. The squirrels come to our bird feeder and pick up what has fallen to the ground. But for the little squirrels it can be hard work getting down through the snow to the seeds. My little friend White Ears persisted however.

The effort is worth it when some food is found beneath the snow.

Toward the end of the week the snow began to melt a bit . I found it very interesting to note that the squirrels were much more tolerant of each other. Even the black squirrels, who are usually very aggressive with each other, were happy to be getting something to eat and did not feel it necessary to fight.

Perhaps humans could learn something from this. In hard times we could set aside our disputes and just get along together. Be like the squirrels!
