Product Review: Equine Field Spray

The summer is almost over and I am hoping the bugs are almost over too. I love to take Biasini and go for a trail ride in the forest but the summer bugs can make it a miserable experience. There are mosquitoes, flies and worst of all deer flies. These little blighters latch on and bite and it’s a nasty bite! A good bug spray is essential. Since Biasini is a chestnut horse with sensitive skin I have to be very careful what I use on his skin. I have had him come up in welts from an allergic reaction to bug sprays in the past. So you can imagine my joy in finding a spray that deters the bugs and does not affect Biasini’s skin.

Equus Soap Company makes a chemical free Equine or K9 Field Spray. The ingredients are:

Witch hazel, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, aloe vera extract, neem oil, essential oils of lavender, lemongrass, rosemary, eucalyptus, plus vitamin E as antioxidant and preservative.

This summer was the first time I used the Field Spray. I wondered how it would do with the deer flies. The first time I went out and there were deer flies ,one landed on Biasini’s fly bonnet but although they were flying around him they did not land on him. What a blessing! In the past when these flies have been bad and biting we have had to abandon our trail ride and go back to the barn. But not this year. So for a horse with sensitive skin I highly recommend this spray. With the beautiful forest trails we have near the barn would be a shame not to be able to take advantage of them.

The Field Spray can also be purchased in a 236 ml bottle of concentrate and then mixed with water in a 1 liter spray bottle. You can find this and other Equus Soap Co. products at https://equussoapco.com/

We didn’t have too many flying buggers this summer. Mosquitoes are beginning to come out now. Our annoyance has been spider webs, in particular from ugly brown spiders. Not too many black widows. The shop-vac has been working overtime on spider and web duty.

For people, Avon’s Skin So Soft is one good repellent. During the Iraq War, Avon ladies near military bases made off like bandits selling Skin So Soft. Added plus, you smell a little nicer through all the sweat. 🙂

Ah yes I remember the Skin So Soft . For us here the deer flies are the worst. Also in fhe spring we have small black flies that bite and draw blood but they like to be near water so not so as in the forest. Thanks for commenting David.

This sounds really good. I have a sensitive skin horse too! I’ll have to get some and give it a try. Thanks for the review and recommendation! 🙂

This is interesting. I never knew there was such a thing as equine filed spray. The ingredients seem to be same around humans too.

Yes they are the same as sprays for bug repelling that humans use. I don’t know if you have deer flies where you live. They are small and have triangular wings with yellow stripes. They latch on and bite and are hard to brush off. So a spray that can keep them off is good. Thank you for commenting and taking the time to read this post.
