The summer is almost over and I am hoping the bugs are almost over too. I love to take Biasini and go for a trail ride in the forest but the summer bugs can make it a miserable experience. There are mosquitoes, flies and worst of all deer flies. These little blighters latch on and bite and it’s a nasty bite! A good bug spray is essential. Since Biasini is a chestnut horse with sensitive skin I have to be very careful what I use on his skin. I have had him come up in welts from an allergic reaction to bug sprays in the past. So you can imagine my joy in finding a spray that deters the bugs and does not affect Biasini’s skin.
Equus Soap Company makes a chemical free Equine or K9 Field Spray. The ingredients are:
Witch hazel, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, aloe vera extract, neem oil, essential oils of lavender, lemongrass, rosemary, eucalyptus, plus vitamin E as antioxidant and preservative.
This summer was the first time I used the Field Spray. I wondered how it would do with the deer flies. The first time I went out and there were deer flies ,one landed on Biasini’s fly bonnet but although they were flying around him they did not land on him. What a blessing! In the past when these flies have been bad and biting we have had to abandon our trail ride and go back to the barn. But not this year. So for a horse with sensitive skin I highly recommend this spray. With the beautiful forest trails we have near the barn would be a shame not to be able to take advantage of them.
The Field Spray can also be purchased in a 236 ml bottle of concentrate and then mixed with water in a 1 liter spray bottle. You can find this and other Equus Soap Co. products at https://equussoapco.com/
