My Sanity Saver!

I’ve had a bit of an ‘interesting’ week so far. Now, let me be clear, I just mean somewhat stressful, nothing like what people in Beirut are struggling to deal with in the aftermath of their disaster. No! My problems are small by comparison and in truth I lead a charmed life. But on Wednesday morning I realized I was showing signs of stress. What to do? Well, lucky me, Wednesday is the day I take Biasini on a trail ride .

We set off starting on the trails that are on the Oakcrest Farm property. The woods were very quiet. Only the occasional bird call. Perhaps the birds all take a quiet time at midday.

We headed toward the “Goat Trail”. That trail is a favorite of mine and Biasini’s. Then we continued on to the York Regional Forest Trails. We followed the blue trail. I call it the blue trail as some of the trees have blue marks on them to direct people who are walking.

We were out for about 45 minutes. What a glorious ride! When we got back to the barn I gave Biasini an apple treat. The stress had lifted off me and floated away, up into the trees. Biasini is my Sanity Saver.

I wish that I could have been there as we all need to save our sanity.

I agree. This week I am taking a sabbatical from news, even the BBC and the CBC. Just find it too disturbing and it was affecting my sleep.

It works well to keep the bugs out of his ears.

What a glorious ride and such a cool name Biasini. You are fortunate to have a horse ride to relieve your stress.
    Enjoy and stay healthy Anne.

Thank you. I am very fortunate to have such a good horse and to have the forest trails nearby
      You stay well too!

I know just what you mean Anne. For me it’s a walk on the beach or a round of golf with friends. Fresh air and sunshine – sanity savers for sure.

That’s nice, it’s good for all of us to have a saver, as good as Biasini and as good as this beautiful place.

love old single tracks in the woods…usually from a bike not a horse.

In the York Regional forest people do go in the wider trails on bikes. I am always pleased when they slow down going past horses. But the narrow trails are part of the farm property so we don’t encounter bikes there. But these trails are wonderful and very calming. We have lots of hills too so a bit or work for the horse or bike rider.

The best stress reliever out there is on our horses backs looking between those beautiful ears on a beautiful trail. You helped relieve my stress by sharing the relaxing ride (like you, I’m not facing what some are but none the less we all have stressful days! Such pretty photos and I am there beside you in spirit! Thankful for our ponies! 🐴♥️

So glad you have your trail buddy to relieve stress! I’m sure those leisurely rides help Biasini relax as well and give a much needed break from the rigors of training.

You’ve got it Sandy! It is so good for Biasini to get out of the arena and the training work. It refreshes him and I try to do it once a week. He also gets weekends off so he only has to work at dressage 4 days a week
      😃

It’s great he has that time off.

Going through the woods, on foot, or on horseback, is definitely a great stress-reliever.
Is it called a “goat trail” because it’s rougher going?

    1. anne leueen Avatar

It’s called the goat trail because it goes uphill on one side of a narrow trail and downhill on the other. So we have to pay attention !

I love how a trail ride make such a dramatic shift!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

It is such a great readjustment for both horse and human.

    Just the thing…stress is relative.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes! In the larger perspective my stress is a smaller thing.
