Previously I posted about the two swans on the small lake up the road from us. They did have some babies. I have only seen two ( possibly there were more but they provided a meal for a raccoon or snapping turtle) but they seem to be growing and the parents keep them well away from the prying eyes and bread feeding hands of roadside humans. I took my longest lens and at 600mm this was the closest I could get but here they are.
I had also previously posted about our little visitor White Ears. She had her babies shortly after I posted about her. We never see the babies as her nest is quite far away from our house. She comes twice a day to eat the nuts and seeds dropped from the bird feeder. She knows there is more to eat up at that feeder and she is the only squirrel that looks up to see if she can get at it.
The other day she decided she could climb up the Mountain Ash tree and take a leap from it to the feeder. But she is a wise squirrel and once she saw the distance she turned around and decided against it. But it looks like she was giving me a look in this photo.
She retreated to the ground and continued to search for nuts and seeds in the grass.
Today she seemed a bit skittish. Several of the visiting squirrels kept heading up the trees. They do this when they think there is an airborne threat like a hawk. Here is White Ears hiding out in a tree.
But the threat passed and all the squirrels relaxed and went on poking about looking for nuts or seeds. in the grass.
