Well I am back in the saddle again after two months off. The CV19 restrictions have been slightly eased in Ontario and we are allowed to ride our horses again. But we have very clear restrictions: only 5 people may be in the barn at one time,no riding in closed indoor arenas, sanitizing regimes must be maintained. At Oakcrest Farm coach and owner Belinda Trussell had already been planning with the Oakcrest staff how to implement these restrictions. So… we all have a set time to be at the barn. We each have two hours to groom, tack up , and ride. There is one grooming stall and one bathroom assigned for the boarders both have ample alcohol spray to sanitize. Today was my first day!
I don’t think Biasini was particularly pleased to see me as I arrived just after the lunch time hay was served and he gave me a “you can’t be serious” look when I said he had to leave it and come with me. I explained we had a schedule and it was now or never! I had brought my portable saddle rack with me and put that outside his stall so I can do everything with him in his stall and I do not need to use the grooming stall.
It was a rainy day but I had brought a waterproof quarter sheet for Biasini and I have a riding raincoat for myself. I mounted up and off we went to the forest. As we walked up the hill I could feel myself relax. I was back with Biasini. I think he felt that too and both of us enjoyed the ride. Here is a video of us on the trail. I tried to video the white Trillium flowers blooming at the side of the trail but it is hard to see them.
So I’m just like Gene Autry…back in the saddle again.
